Checking the editions, "kuhul" is on p. 8 the 1610 Artis auriferae and not on p. 8 of any of the others! The 1572 and 1593 editions were super unlikely (Newton has yet to ref. them), and Theatrum chemicum's p. 8 doesn't work. All this made possible by lack of re-issues and line-by-line reprints!

In Babson 416, the MS I'm working on right now, Newton is weirdly cagey. He puts page numbers down, but does not say to what work he's referring. So you have to sort of guess around his normal sources to see what would fit. For ex., this section has a lot of citations to the front of a source

It’s funny how your archival notes can take you back: “nasty dirt case with purple mold” 😂 I might have actually been given gloves for this one bc it was gross #BookHistory

A good night to have finished more of the blocks for my VA themed intellectual freedom quilt

And as neat (to me at least) is that they use the @ symbol in the 1680s, though they mean @ for "arroba" as 25 lbs versus anything to do with the internet! #BookHistory

Steve the DH 🦔 and I have begun the journey towards #HDH2025! #DH

I also wanna use this awesome mushroom fabric, but I don’t know if the color scheme works

I think I should be able to count my ability to curate a quilt‘s worth of bug fabric without trying towards my collection development skills on CVs and cover letters 😂 And long-term planning, because this is for two quilts ahead of now

Something has definitely gone wrong in Newton's alchemy citation when it leads you to a section on mules, eels, and trouts...

The best preliminary I've ever encountered:
A preface titled "Al tan ocioso que leyere este libro" aka "To the very lazy/leisurely that would read this book"

Book identification challenge: What the heck is "Ubequeño Grande" or "Ubequino Grande"?
Assuming "grande" refers to size, but maybe not.
Very likely a medical book; something printed before 1623.
Screenshot below in case this is actually a paleography prob. #BookHistory #histsci #histmed

No Google, I did not mean "Albert the Great paradisus anime." But now I do want to know what an Albert the Great anime would be like

Steve the DH hedgehog got up to join us for the last day of #DH2025!
(Steve is from DH2023 at Graz, hence his status as a DH hedgehog)

#DHWOGEM was amazing today, and I think Hannah, Sarah, and Theresa’s planned activities converted a whole room of people to #DHmakes and the wonderfulness of crafting while conversing and listening to people talk! Below is my bit trying to represent messy data

The result of two days of doing English paper piecing while listening to ##BookHistory sessions at #SHARP2025 is four blocks totally done on the quilt. And the great thing about doing EPP on the go is that hotels usually have irons to press your work! 😂

The quilt pieces all cut out!! I will glue them to their papers next week so as to be prepped for conferences #DHmakes
June 29, 2025 at 12:42 AM
Cutting my own EPP quilt pieces doesn’t seem too bad. I’m hoping that everything will fit together well when I actually go to sew…
But the goal to have all the pieces ready for sewing during conferences seems doable!

An easier morning of identifications than yesterday since most of them were Plantin press and several were Leonardus Lessius!
(though normally quite easy because this dude gives *ALL* the info)
This priest also really had a thing for the Jesuits.

I really need some sort of code within my browser that tells databases "I'm not a bot, I'm just a bibliographer!"
(Screenshot of dialnet's error message that I've reached limit access)

So my dad thinks I should keep the figures in the middle as stick figures versus the more realistic figures on the VA seal. I kind of like the XKCD vibe too?? What do others think?
