Hi. I study biophysics and quantum optics. My opinions are in a superposition of being both completely serious and entirely farcical.

Took heartbeat interval data from a chest strap and turned it into breathing rate estimates. Used FFT + peak interpolation to pull out the respiratory signal hiding inside heart rhythms.

I'm astounded that the "soy causes estrogenation, and therefore has lead to the feminization of the world" crowd and **the literal soybean farmers and food industry** have managed to remain in the same political coalition with each other for so long

All-Star Weekend should just be NBA players playing games that players in the NBA care about, that pose little-to-no risk of injury (golf, 2k, Madden, CoD, Catan), instead of the slop they try to serve us in that farce of a game

If we just try to move on from MAGA as if it was all one long string of no-harm, no-foul, the world will never forgive us.

Given that we know what a Ballmer is, I had always wondered what a Ballmee is.

Thanks to ESPN and The Ringer, I now know

At this point, it's actually good that the most obstinate and disagreeable progressives and leftists are so defiant against wanting to acknowledge Bsky's obvious issues.

By quarantining themselves here, they reduce their imprint on culture, meaning fascists can't use them as agitprop for normies.
These people are insane lmao

Trump winning support from terminally online young men and then appointing RFK Jr. to ban Vyvanse and put autists into work camps is the right wing Stalinist version of how Democrats win elections through appealing to black people and then use that political power to ban menthol cigarettes

Listening to journalists tell stories about how, because they wanted to discover something about a person of interest 5+ years ago, they read through thousands of pages of legal documents, feels like science fiction in the present age.

It's very unlikely that most people who think affirmative action should be outright abolished, or that the entire premise of DEI is a mistake, reject The Bell Curve thesis: that intelligence is genetically determined, and that Black Americans are in the position of not being worthy of investment.

Head Start, an early childhood education program for low income families, is on the chopping block. Growing up, my own mom was an aide with the program; it’s helped countless young mothers, including the one who tells her story here.

The entire point of nonprofits was to use Protestant Guilt to trick the Ameriplebs into transferring civil society governance over to the private sphere from the public
putting a bunch of rich assholes on the boards of every major nonprofit institution was perhaps, with hindsight, a mistake

My friend told me that he thinks Jayson Tatum is going to shoot 86% from the free throw line next year.

So I did a hierarchical Bayesian analysis to show him that, if the line for Tatum shooting over 86% from the line next year is less than +500, he should not take that bet.

I am hearing (reliably) that RIFs have started with entire institute Communication branches being terminated since their jobs not longer exist (reduction in force).

But that is not all...

There is lively debate and fractious fighting within the Democratic Party right now about what direction the party should take, not just on various issues, but the unifying meta-narrative of the party itself.

What is this person talking about?
If you’re going to write an op-ed like this as a newspaper, I had better see at least one example of a “scolding, censorious posture”, or else I’m just going to assume that the actual problem is that getting yelled at by strangers online has melted everyone on the Editorial Board’s brains
