Walking is a right; driving is a privilege. Not the other way around.

Bigots & bots will be blocked.

Oh, and I RT ducks.

Much respect to NYC.

I don't think it is, though. Using Manhattan again, the grid actually deters quick & easy auto use. Drivers block intersections, double-park & box each other in. Hence the rationale for urban expressways (then) and congestion pricing (now).

So many urban American grid patterns predate the automobile, though, Manhattan's being the most famous (1811).
If anything, grids were a good way to standardize development and the buying & selling of real estate.

Which is a factor in road rage. The gap between driving reality and fantasy has never been larger.

Agreed.

For sure. What car companies sell is a world in which no one but you has a car.

I think congestion makes drivers more dangerous. More angry, more aggressive, more likely to gun it.

I counted only 4 cars in this charming village scene, all parked and in the background while foregrounding people on foot.

This is why I don't fear Vance in office if 47 passes. He has no cult, no power base of his own.

If you want to be seen by drivers, commit traffic infractions. Seriously, they will spot you every time.

Every accusation, etc.

Here are more animals I have seen within city limits:

Gonna go out on a limb and argue that banding together in villages and then cities improved the chances for human survival.

The long national freak-out in the 19th century about Catholic immigrants is instructive.

It takes a generation, more or less, to assimilate every new group of arrivals. It never happens overnight & we should know by now not to freak out over it.
