If I had a book out I'd plug it here. But I don't. So I won't. (but I would if I did)

We had one of those magnetic driving instructor signs fly at us off the top of the car in front on the M25. Was certainly invigorating 😬

That's where I sit. When I think of the broader picture, there's a lot in our offer that is training (site, systems, 1st aid, RPI) and then there's extended learning. My fear is people will change to using 'learning' but keep doing the same thing rather than think about what it means. We'll see!

What are your instincts with the inevitable shift to using 'Professional Learning' rhetoric now? My gut is that it's only one element of the bigger picture & 'development' is still important to include (but then I've been part of the wrestle over terms in the last 10 or so years and have my biases).

I've gone down such a rabbit hole. Found a lot of a Virgin Mary/ purity/ blood of Christ/three-leaves-trinity stuff (and the naughty stuff), but I'm lost deep into Medieval manuscript paint recipes, strawberries and Shakespeare and embroidery patterns now. This is my favourite thing 🍓

A gajillion years ago (2016) I blogged about the way researchED had changed the atmosphere in education. Interesting to revisit in relation to what's happening now - can see the direct link.
(also, yes, I did download a Star Trek font for the title)

researchED: The Next Generation
A theory I’ve had at the back of my mind for a while now is that there’s an emerging ‘2nd Generation’ of researchED goers. I’ve increasingly found that discussing the …

I think quite a bit of it* is down to people changing their roles. The teacher becoming leader, the student becoming a Dr, the time-rich having kids, the voiceless getting book deals. We've been at this over 15 years too!

As a tangent, this is interesting from a renaissance Italy pov, where the idea that 'great artists' went beyond copying and created a more perfect realisation of the thing they were making (truth out of a lie) 😁

I collect quotes that I yell at them too. Ones from books or documentaries or podcasts we put on 😁

48. The Photo Book is another one I used to love in my school library (they had the big version, I only got the small one, but still packs a punch). I've not included one of the pictures I like most coz 'adult content' but check out 'Nude Woman Wearing Meat Packers Gloves' if you can. #52ArtBooks25

It'd be interesting to see how things have changed for the OU. My current course (albeit PG, not UG) is completely online and self-led. Could skip straight to the discussions, ignore the tutorials or forums but there's lots of opportunity for engagement and people seem to be taking part in things.
