Would be interested to see total teams stats on this as well. Put it next to the stat from last year showing which teams were most/least favored by umps (Dodgers near bottom, NYY near top). Also wonder if teams are more alert when Ohtani bats and that pushes the defensive edge a bit more.

This is the answer to all of this. Applies to the Rockies firing Bud Black today as well. Too many teams want to find any excuse not to spend at % of revenue that the Dodgers and only a handful of other teams have.

Speaking of which, this chart will be my response this year when fans of <50% teams claim Dodgers are buying wins. How about you get your own club to spend >70% first, then come back and whine. 🧀🍷⚾️

Big market iconic ball clubs that are spending <50% should be ashamed. Teams under .500 shpuld be required spend an inverse portion of revenue on payroll/tax. Club went .380? Spend 62% minimum next year. I'd also have teams pay into a pot that's divided annually among teams spending >50%.

I think this is a fair point, but the experts on failing democracies I've seen also insist that there's value in reminding people that, ultimately, democracy delivers better than dictatorship. Not saying that should be the centerpiece of the message, but it's not useless. It's a key piece.

This is the view from the 8th floor of the Airport Courthouse this morning by LAX. You can just barely make out DTLA through the smoke and see a plane taking off to the East (they usually go West under normal wind conditions). Everything reeks of smoke right now.
