Today's Marvel Unlimited read, Ultimate Spider-Man 20 by Jonathan Hickman, David Messina, Matthew Wilson, & Cory Petit. This is a peak example of how thoughtfully made and character-driven superhero comics can be.

The virgin birth is likely a later addition, but regardless, Jesus' humanity is central to the Christian narrative. Rogan's take is a pretty good illustration of the nihilism at fundamentalism's core though. They say equally human/divine but what they really worship is a machine.

@denizcamp.bsky.social can I just say how much I love the theological and philosophical implications of guardians from a doomed century crafting a ship with present day materials and naming it after the term for universal restoration? Quite the secret "Origen" so to speak!

I love how contemplative Soul of the Hunter is; it's a beautiful reflection on mortality and trauma. I also think the shape your future Spider-Man work would take is embodied nicely by this panel.

My favorite Keith Giffen work is his Defenders mini with JLI collaborators J.M. DeMatteis & Kevin Maguire. It's The Naked Gun of mainstream superhero comics; wall-to-wall gags and genuinely the funniest comic book I've ever read.

ROTJ makes it clear that Luke was never going to defeat the Empire by fighting Vader and his instincts were spot on and more in tune with the force than Ben and Yoda's. Ben insists Vader cannot be saved-- "more machine than man"--and sees Luke's refusal to consider killing him a failure.

The extent to which the rich have coopted and weaponized Christianity is nothing short of amazing considering how contemptuous the scriptures are of wealth

The Maker is one of those incredible comic book creations that came about through years of mediocrity and frustration and finally Bendis going "%#] it, let's break some shit" followed by Jonathan Hickman's doctoral thesis on well and truly breaking that shit, like ALL the shit

And even Wolfman put Golden Age Supes in a pocket dimension to save him, which Waid rightly pointed out was still a cage of sorts.

Here's the case David Bentley Hart makes for "joyfully praise" over more traditional translations like "confess"

"God chose the lowborn things of the cosmos and the things treated as nothing, the things that have no being, in order that he might nullify the things that do have being, so that no flesh at all might boast before God...'Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.'"

Peter is terrified of being publicly exposed as Spider-Man; Norman Osborn's most deep-seated fear is being mocked

It's a great reversal of the iconic ASM 39 imagery where Goblin co-opts Spider-Man's trick (using rope or cable instead of webbing) to display his dominance; with the foothold neck grip, Spidey turns Goblin's aerial dominance against him, humiliating and literally steering him.

Fascinated by late antiquity concept of guardian angels as doppelgangers of their earthly charges. You see this in Acts 12:15 and Matthew 18:10.

Really terrific footnote by David Bentley Hart concerning Romans 9-11 as Paul's extended meditation affirming universalism.
