Like "my favorite Spidey stories" threads? Confidentially, we in the fan community refer to them as "long underwear rants"! And as you know, they're a dime a dozen! But, we think you may find our @benreilly149.bsky.social thread just a bit...different!

I love love love that they hired a painter to do these portraits and then acknowledged her by name. Artists of all kinds supporting each other is so beautiful.
Our gorgeous #WakeUpDeadMan end credit portraits, painted from life by Isabella Watling. We’re still in theaters, see my pinned post for a theater finder!

Tarantino is right now the most hated person in US Cinema.

An asshole who doesn’t realize he’s not, and probably never was, this edgy outsider guy who punches up. Rather he’s now an influential guy picking and harassing people, punching down on those who don’t have his level of clout.
Matthew Lillard reacts to Quentin Tarantino's comments about him

"Quentin Tarantino says he doesn't like me as an actor ... it hurts your feelings, it fucking sucks, and he wouldn't say that to Tom Cruise ... or a top-line actor ... It's humbling, and it hurts"

Sarandos is a guy who can step into the vacuum of chaos and present a weaker status quo than the period of chaos. So that makes him more dangerous in my view, than if he were actively malicious.
One complicated thing about Netflix/WB is that Ted Sarandos, although he is the public face of antipathy to the theatrical experience, is not especially high on the list of those who've undermined and damaged it. I'd rank him 4th, after studios, theater owners, and people who quit going to movies.

I mean, come on, how infectiously joyous is this? And much like the magic of staring past the performer & locking on the puppet, this special features the Muppet performers each voicing multiple characters in close proximity, and yet they all remain unique and imbued with singular life...

Pope Leo XIV just went viral belting out “L.O.V.E” with Michael Bublé at the Vatican’s Concert with the Poor, a Christmas event where the front rows are filled with homeless and low-income guests.

Michael Bublé called it “the greatest night” of his career.

It's the only MI film that is virtually unwatchable, lacking even the sheer insanity of MI2. No idea why such a fun franchise chose to end on such a self-serious, self-referential, self-congratulatory note.
I don't know if I've ever hated the first hour of a movie as much as I hated the first hour of "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning."

Overall, what a baffling film.

Perfect summation of MI: The Final Reckoning
I feel like the first hour was trying to tie together the franchise, the second hour was trying to make sense of "Dead Reckoning" and the third hour was trying to kill Tom Cruise. And that's too many hours.

Today's Marvel Unlimited read, Ultimate Spider-Man 20 by Jonathan Hickman, David Messina, Matthew Wilson, & Cory Petit. This is a peak example of how thoughtfully made and character-driven superhero comics can be.

The Western world, claiming Christ as its model while patterning itself after Caligula.

"For all the nations have drunk
the maddening wine of her adulteries.
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,
and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”

Herb Trimpe's art is so brilliant in this run. This panel is a good example, simple in execution here but so effective

Of all of the adaptations of Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL, few have captured Christmas Future and Scrooge’s graveyard panic as well as MICKEY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL. Beautifully animated. Utterly sublime with exquisite nuance. Chilled me as a child. Still impactful as an adult.

Imagine being told in 1999 that the DVD mailout people would one day buy Warner Brothers for $72bn. "Wow," you would say. "They must be mailing out an awful lot of DVDs in 2025."
