First and foremost, biodiversity: Frogs; Snakes; Bees but the wild kinds; Birds but not a birder. Occasional politics, of the woke, pro-Rejoin kind. Si j'avais le choix, je serais à Toulouse. SW London. Crepuscular.
Nice. I never ever tire of seeing a kestrel.

A day with a kestrel in it is always a good day... but one with a peregrine (prize-winning photo on the left), sparrowhawk and buzzards in it too? A fabulous day. Beautiful light in Richmond Park at lunchtime today. @rspb.bsky.social

I'm swap you some Blackthorn from SW London. And a bonus Brown hairstreak egg.

No world-beating photo but i present this from our garden this morning as #FoxOfTheDay in the context of it having escaped the bastards in our road who recently spent £2k to cull 2 vixens because they (the humans) can't operate a dustbin lid. @chrisgpackham.bsky.social

They are delightful, we went just after Hogmanay a couple of years ago. The company take you up on to the mountain and you get to feed them.

Strong want. This one was in Scotland last year.

I went for boxes, although am thinking of retrofitting bricks. East-facing. Took a couple of years but playing recorded calls eventually tempted Harold and Maude in last year and they raised at least 2 chicks this summer.

Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t - I've woken the owl up and it didn't even have the language i wanted...

I see you and raise you.

Firecrest in the house(woods)! Amazingly not even the UK's smallest bird. Seems to be doing well across South London, now hearing in several locations. @btobirds.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social

Yes, but they produced 3 broods in my hedge this year so I'm only slightly peeved. And it's hard to be cross at a bathing bird...

F*ck you and your fancy pond that you spent hours digging and years perfecting for I shall bathe in this plastic pot tray over here. Among the pots. In a tray. @rspb.bsky.social #robin #f*ckyou

Out looking for firecrests on Wimbledon Common again, heard not seen. Lovely views of goldcrests and long tailed tits though. Merlin also picked up a ring ouzel which would have been nice to confirm...Firecrest quest continues. @lesevanshill.bsky.social

Oh fabulous. I found these eggs in my allotment pond last year which could have been GCN but I've only ever seen smooth newts. But I'm rarely there after dark...

There's always room for one more bee-friendly plant - here, Rosa. xanthina var. spontanea ‘Canary Bird’ bare root courtesy of David Austin... but it's all the fault of @jeremybartlett.bsky.social and @vannabartlett.bsky.social for planting the seed so to speak. 📸 in flower: David Austin website

It's this time of year that they slowly shift position, ever alert to the possibilities of out- manoeuvring you...
October 25, 2025 at 8:17 AM
Yes, we had one in the garden here in SW London a week, 10 days ago. It's still so warm. More excitingly the moths started laying this year on the bedstraw I planted for them.

Survivor. This frog with a deformed leg has lived in my garden for at least 2 years and is still going strong - here discovered behind a flower pot this week. @froglife.bsky.social @stevoallain.bsky.social

You too! This is a narrow- leaved ash from my local park, one of several that put on a fabulous show at this time of year.
