Today the #ciudaddelrunning is very much the city of hobbling. #Valencia

Marvellous morning in Valencia watching Tilly and Ben run the marathon. What a lovely city.

Good morning. Enjoyed my greatest hits tour in Madrid yesterday. Now to Valencia to support eldest running marathon that injuries have kept me out of!

Few thriller writers have managed to marry great plot with incredible style quite as exuberantly as Philip Kerr. His Bernie Gunther stories are explosive dramas whose themes Kerr explores echoing loudly through the increasingly frightening world we live in. bennotinspain.substack.com/p/bernie-gun...

This is very sad. Billy Bonds is written into my earliest football memories. A West Ham icon almost without parallel. It was great to see him embraced again by the club in recent years. RIP Billy.

Good morning. Discombobulated this week by time zones and jet lag and so have been awol. Good week in Tokyo but more than ready to go home.

A couple of weeks ago I went to see Hamlet for the first time in 35 years. Why I've been avoiding it for so long: bennotinspain.substack.com/p/to-watch-o...

Good morning. Last night’s cold rain has cleared away and it’s now a cold grey morning in Hamburg where Christmas is coming.

Othello is a nasty play. This was a terrific production. And Toby Jones a most devilish Iago, surely the greatest of all Shakespeare’s villains.

This is a lovely book. The first I’ve read in which a fig tree is a leading character. Also had no idea just how bloody and brutal Cyprus was. Seeing human lives and all our self-inflicted misery, our conceits, as well as our love, through the perspective of a tree is very clever and also moving.

Poignant two minute silence at the people of London memorial on the south side of St Paul’s.

Good morning. The weather has broken and it’s probably a good thing given the drought stories I’ve been reading. Wet and a bit wild. Good view of the failing tree here, in contrast to healthier tree behind. Surgeon says it’s Acute Oak Decline. Now trying to figure out if anything can be done with it

Does this boy love a stick. When they’re big like this he tends to growl at them. Beautiful day.

This is more usual. Daggers and guns and whatever…

There are a surprising number of vintage weapons available every week in our local country auction house. This week things have escalated a little.

Good morning. Today will mostly be spent thinking about Blue Lights and the last 15 minutes or S3 E5 and first 15 of E6. Incredible television. At some point today will be bunking off to watch the end. Have a good weekend ORCs.

I mean, Christ… that’s about 25 minutes of the most tense ‘entertainment’ I’ve ever seen.
November 6, 2025 at 7:58 PM
Goodness me, but Blue Lights is the highest quality television. Quite brilliant.

I am sorry to report that my favourite shop in Liverpool St has closed. I never actually bought. Anything from them, but always enjoyed looking. Which may hint at the problem.
