99.99% of this just comes down to the fan experience, it makes for a more enjoyable watch if the game "stays alive" for as long as possible. So, fans and media *want* a one possession game, for enjoyment purposes.

But it shouldn't be conflated with actual game strategy

Also, the funniest explanations involve "but psychology."

The Bears (who never ran a passing play) went on to pick up a first down before being stopped. I guess the Eagles were demoralized, but then regrouped to make a stop when the odds of winning were even less likely?

Holy mental gymnastics

"But if you don't get it, the game is over."

No, there are still 3:00 left. That's a quitter's mentality. It's giving you the information you need to best optimize those remaining 3:00 for your interests.

(P.S. As always, it’s funny when the players/coaches of the person’s own team directly contradict the preferred narrative. Cough.)

This guy is a clown and a perfect example of Craig Ackerman's #BayAreaMedia rant a few years ago, but lol at the juxtaposition here.

Do these games matter, or not? I guess it depends on whatever narrative or column you want to sell.

Quite frankly, there is nothing more beneficial to the health of a sport than players/coaches taking regular-season games seriously
