Here's data on the early years attainment gap over time (including today's new data) - the government have framed their early years strategy as offering "the best start in life", regardless of background - but their policies (30 hour offer not being available to many poorer families....

Highly recommend actually reading through this - am only half way in and what a lesson in the limits to expert advice and how it translates to policymakers, the importance of clear communication between decision makers and actually testing assumptions/what you're basing your views on continuously.
