Just dropping this here for context.

They called it the ‘Dirty War’ in Argentina when this happened. Which is not so far removed from your current lived experience.

This has the vibes of Argentina and Chile in the 1970s and I’m very serious when I say that.

It's amazing how they "received reports," suited up, grabbed their finest chemical weapons, and deployed "in response" before the citizens even got there. 🤔

Remember, y'all: If your values don't apply to EVERYBODY, they're not your values. They're just a favor you're doing for people you like.

I'm just blocking people at this point for this kind of shit. I'm too old and too tired.
Please let's not do the "making fun of an ethnic name" thing

Bovino instantly violates new court order. About an hour after Ellis entered this injunction, a group of agents, including Bovino, drove away from a SWSide gas station where they were confronted by protestors, and fired a round of pepper balls at a sedan that pulled up alongside their vehicle
Bovino claims agents operate ‘legally, ethically and morally’ same day injunction issued in court
U.S. Border Patrol Cmdr. Gregory Bovino said federal agents’ operations had been “going very violent” the same day that his agents fired pepper balls at a moving vehicle in Gage Park and pointed ri…

And even after it was repealed, Amazon pulled out anyway.

Corporations don't make threats, they weaponize their existing business plans.

Similar to grocery stores blaming shoplifting for store closures when losses are insured or otherwise built-in to their costs

Amazon pulls out of the Rainier Tower space, despite head tax outcome
In Seattle, this may come as a shock. Because last spring, Amazon used its lease on the Rainier Square tower as a bargaining chip in its fight against Seattle's head tax.

Anyone saying they should vote with Dems is thinking they have ethics. They're just PO'd that their pet monster is making them unpopular and isn't letting them play with the torture racks. Like all the others who thought they'd ride his coattails and got shafted instead.
PUNCHBOWL: “.. GOP members messaged us over the weekend saying that they, too, are considering retiring in the middle of the term. Here’s one particularly exercised senior House Republican:

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

Every parent whose career has to do with online safety also bans Roblox.
Every game designer parent I know bans Roblox for their kids

My hot take is that over the next 10 years, we're going to see more emphasis on and investment in the humanities at Ivy League and other fancy schools just as state schools and small privates continue to decimate and even eliminate the humanities.
"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe

More than nine years after the process started, the "Save Madison Valley" building is finally getting close to opening its doors to residents.

It is genuinely insane how bright and distracting car lights are now
I wish we, like, regulated shit nowadays. Between car bloat, blinding headlines, and neighbourhoods packed with rental suites but no on-property parking, driving is an absolute nightmare now.
Nearly all drivers say vehicles' lights are too bright in study
The study, commissioned by the Department for Transport, was completed by Berkshire's TRL.

Scores of policy shop folks, including those in the county's climate office, have been invited to apply to keep their own jobs, and morale is not great.
