‘Squirrelled,’ as in “squirrelled away,” can be pronounced “SKWERLD.”

‘Squirrelled’ has 11 letters, making it the longest one-syllable word in English.

What better day to launch a Bluesky account than our birthday? We turn 225 today! 🎂 🥳 Here's a brief summary of the Library's history, courtesy of Dr. Carla Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress.

Colbert once lovingly roasted us with a “live feed” of MapQuest HQ: Our Chief Nostalgia Officer. Unconscious, lit by the glow of Windows 98.
And honestly? Still outperforming Congress.

I went to a free chamber music string ensemble at a public library this evening.

They were playing traditional Chinese music and new compositions by a Chinese composer.

It was one of the best concerts that I’ve been to in a long time and it was free because public libraries are awesome.

In the future, all these books by politicians will be forgotten while the books they're trying to ban will remain classics and live on for generations.

Withdrawing health care from vulnerable people is a
Texas specialty. Move to Michigan, come for the healthcare, stay for the beaches and reliable power grid.

If you’re connected with NOAA’s GLERL, or other Great Lakes teams affected by federal cuts + shifts, I’d love to hear from you.

I’m a ProPublica reporter in Michigan with a longtime interest in water.

NOAA's #GreatLakes Environmental Research Lab will be taking an "indefinite hiatus" from communications due to staff cuts. GLERL communicates critical weekly updates about the extent of harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie - like the one that left my hometown of Toledo without drinking water in 2014

Shame on these legislators for using the excuse of protecting women and children to take away human rights from a vulnerable group of people. I don't want to be used as an excuse to rob people of their rights.
Iowa lawmakers vote to remove trans people’s civil rights protections
The Iowa Senate and House debated for several hours before passing the legislation overwhelmingly along party lines. The governor is expected to sign the bill.

Can confirm.
Regular reminder to go get a public library card. As book bans become more and more common, supporting libraries is going to be essential.

For most places I've lived, all you need to get a library card is a photo ID and a piece of mail that shows you live in the city. It's free!

Hi, just a reminder that when you use Libro.fm for your audiobooks, you support independent bookshops vs. large corporations that drive them out of business.

We also pay taxes. And so do indie bookshops.

While many professions/businesses use the term "customers" at a library you're a "patron," which I think sounds much nicer and fancier.
