That's definitely a part of it, but Anakin was also willing to turn on his actual mentor and his wife the instant their interests didn't align with his own.
IDK, I think part of my problem is less with ROTS and more with the first two films not really setting the groundwork enough.

He really doesn't do anything that couldn't have also been done by Dooku, a character who has an actual connection to Obi-Wan (and Yoda) and works much better as a parallel to Anakin instead of "they're both cyborgs."
I love him in the 2003 CW, but he's a joke in the movie.

Grievous perplexes me: this was a character Lucas created for ROTS and he does . . . basically nothing. He just shows up with no intro; he never kills anyone; and only really exists to get Obi-Wan off Courascant. He can use 4 lightsabers . . . and he loses all of them immediately.

Or Obi-wan's . . . rather tame reaction to learning his protoge and friend has turned evil and murdered many of his friends.

I mean a common criticism of the PT is its poor direction, which can result in flat performances and very awkward moments. Like when Anakin goes to tell Windu that Palps is a Sith Lord and Mace . . . keeps walking leisurely. That's pretty damning info, but Windu reacts like his car got dinged.
