I did this for 6 yrs with my last Lab. Would give her the shot while she was eating so she never even noticed. Vet (back then) told me not to bother with readings unless I just wanted to drive myself crazy. Took her in for blood work every 2 weeks and would adjust from that. Seemed to work fine
