"disappointing" I feel requires context. It's slower than a RX7600, which was the base level AMD card that released in 2023.

However, the PC ecosystem does not have an affordable starter gaming box. This could provide that.

So since often times the consoles have CPU bottlenecks in performance modes, it's possible that with a VRR display the Steam Machine might provide a better high FPS experience. But would need to be tested.

Certainly will be interesting. If I had to guess I would say 7% slower than the PS5 in GPU intensive scenes, while a bit better than the PS5 in scenes that hammer the CPU, due to the faster Zen4 cores.

The 8GB VRAM may cause issues in some titles if the devs don't optimize for it.

It is however what the next xbox will be like, but it's rumored to be like $1000.
November 14, 2025 at 3:15 PM
The parts alone cost more than $400. It's not going to be $300, especially when the hardware shits on the Series S.

I could see Valve getting away with $450 if there is a non-controller option, but I think $500-$550 is more likely.
November 14, 2025 at 3:14 PM
I don't either, but if priced well I would recommend it to people who don't know how to DIY a system.
November 14, 2025 at 3:13 PM
I think if priced well this could be a big deal for PC gaming. There isn't really a good cheap gaming pre-built available, and if this provides something in the ballpark of the consoles it would be a huge win.
November 14, 2025 at 3:12 PM
$1000 wouldn't make sense as it would be more expensive than devices with similar hardware. It will be $450-$600. Likely $500 or $550.
November 14, 2025 at 3:10 PM
I hated mine since it only had one analog stick.
November 14, 2025 at 3:09 PM
It is a big upgrade over the xbox controller, but it's basically just a luxury. I may get one depending on the price.
November 14, 2025 at 3:08 PM
Like imagine Queens Blvd like this?
November 14, 2025 at 2:23 PM
It's not going to be $400. The hardware itself costs more than $400 unless Valve got an insane deal. It'll likely be $500 with the controller.
November 14, 2025 at 2:04 PM
Absurd that the path+subway will be more than the congestion pricing charge.
November 14, 2025 at 2:03 PM
This is the first time since the NES where there is an open platform console though.

My main air-train issue is that why do we have 30 min headways in the evening with an automated system?
November 13, 2025 at 9:19 PM
Since the Hudson line is the only one that will be accessible directly from Penn Station, they could just give the LIRR control of that route.
November 13, 2025 at 5:54 PM
For example, the Port Washington line is electrified and could run the local stops on the hudson line. Giving a one seat ride between Yonkers to both Woodside and Jamaica for transfer to the airports.
November 13, 2025 at 5:45 PM
At the very least, with Penn Station access phase 2, we should be through running LIRR trains into Westchester.
November 13, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Proton didn't exist back then, which is the main reason it works now.
November 13, 2025 at 5:07 PM
It's going to be HL3, but it's a flat game that can be experienced in the theater mode of the new headset.
November 13, 2025 at 5:06 PM
Valve really should release an ARM build of the game with settings that work on the hardware, even if it compromises the visuals somewhat.
November 13, 2025 at 5:05 PM
The appeal is if it's $500 or less it is basically IMPOSSIBLE to get a PC with those specs at that price. You'd have to spend $200 more if you went with DIY.
November 13, 2025 at 5:04 PM
It's mostly very old games with weird launchers that have issues. Basically every new title works except for those with performance or anti-cheat related issues.
