Had to bring a talisman to the grocery store to combat the overwhelm. It worked alarmingly well.

Night falls
The same set up as the power outage candles. This time the scented candle has returned and the tea lights are either nearly burnt out or have been replaced. The once brightened stairwell is no longer visible.

Power outage ritual vs. Morning Hearth charging
A tall green candle sits in a uranium glass holder. The holder sits upon a decorated wooden board and is surrounded by some beads, a glass filter tip, frog shaped pipe, and three tea lights. The muted daylight from the staircase glows in a cold manner opposed to the warmth of the candle light. The “morning hearth” ritual. Instead of the green pillar candle and carefully placed items, there is a glittering scented candle surrounded by seven tea lights all “charging” in the energy we built while having a shared hot breakfast. (Bacon, eggs, hash browns, and griddle cakes) Afterwards, these candles usually are moved (still burning!) to various rooms in the home to help warm and brighten against the chill spectres of winter. However, the ritual was cut short as I was about to move them.

Thinking about the large bird of whom I took the most unflattering drive-by pictures.

My portraits from yesterday! The first one is my partner and the latter is me!!

I gave myself the challenge of only using the random bag of colorful art tools for my partner and then using only thin tools for myself.

Pinched between two fingers is a square of cookie dough. A second abstract self-portrait. I chose to depict the sensory experience of viewing parts of my face very closely in a mirror. The focus being the sensory receptors (teeth which evolved before “eating” was a thing!!) (and eyes which are hauntingly fragile!!) I think about how easy it is to lose or remove these items yet they are considered to be signifiers of morality.

Spent time with my spouse doing abstract portraits at our craft table under soft warm light.

This is how I felt spending time drawing abstract portraits with my spouse. I might upload them tomorrow with their permission. My self-portrait isn't done yet but I'm excited to work on it more tomorrow.

Learned that this is technically a style of pie safe and I had no clue what a hutch actually looked like. 😅

She looks terrible under artificial lighting but GORGEOUS in a room with natural light.
