“Bastard grant us, in our direst need, the smallest gifts: the nail of the horseshoe, the pin of the axle, the feather at the pivot point, the pebble at the mountain’s peak, the kiss in despair, the one right word. In darkness, understanding.”
This honestly has not occurred to me before and really ought to have.
I’ve definitely seen people rush to declare victory if they don’t get some kind of immediate response on here and on the other site, and it always seemed ridiculous, but only now do I see why.
yeah i was wondering about the constant objections to "async" communication and then i realized it is harder to gish gallop or 'alpha' your way to getting someone to agree just to shut you up asynchronously

it might seem surprising that the people who said “look, let trans people live their lives, but i have Reasonable Concerns about sports and toilets” aren’t up in arms about this, but what you have to remember is that those people who said that are liars who were lying

Hey, do my fellow GenXers remember how a lot of our childhood books had plotlines about a boy who was flunking school and was angry for no reason, and the parents sent him to live on his uncle's farm for the summer where he learned Important Life Lessons from the animals?

Yeah, that kid had autism.

I’d better just log all the way off before all the well-meaning but misinformed takes make me explode.

I keep seeing frustration (this is just the latest) over media only covering the horrors, not what to do about them—but they seem to miss stories about what people *are* doing.

I report on that expressly because I want people to know there are people fighting back, and learn how they could, too.

Telling the most loyally right-wing Latino populations that you don’t want them in your country couldn’t possibly have consequences, nope.
Well, I guess they already enraged Korean-Americans and Vietnamese-Americans, why not keep going?
South Floridians from Cuba, Haiti and Venezuela expecting to become U.S. citizens this week learned instead that their naturalization ceremonies had been canceled after the Trump administration issued a sweeping directive aimed at halting immigration from so-called high-risk countries.
South Florida immigrants on cusp of citizenship told to wait as DHS changes policy
The cancellations, confirmed by multiple immigration attorneys, came after the Trump administration paused immigration from 19 nations and froze all asylum claims.

A robot is only an OTA away from a behavior change, good, bad, or weird.

Waymo robots have always violated some traffic laws. For >year they have been getting noticeably more aggressive as I've shown in a variety of videos. Apparently, on purpose per Ludwick who's been on this project for 15 years.
“They’re bending traffic laws, getting impatient with pedestrians and embracing the idea that when it comes to city driving, politeness doesn’t pay… Waymo has been trying to make its cars “confidently assertive,” says Chris Ludwick, a senior director of product management with Waymo”
Self-driving Waymo cars are suddenly driving way mo like “an aggressive, New York taxi driver.”

People ragging on him for singling out young men, but even in the age of 2 income families, boys are socialized to be the primary breadwinner. They get a ton of media tying financial success directly to self worth. The same way girls get the BS beauty standards and carrying the mental load.
When buying a house is unattainable and jobs are disappearing, it's no surprise young people think they can’t succeed, especially young men.

It's not their fault. It’s Washington’s fault for allowing the middle class to be hollowed out just to make rich people richer.

“Queer is a slur” discourse is unduly annoying to me. A dude on threads is trying to argue with me, saying that queer didn’t start being reclaimed until the 2000s and wasn’t accepted until the 2010s

It's almost Thanksgiving! Got an ICE member coming for dinner at your house? No you don't! Can't stop them because you're not the one hosting? No problem. You can shun them, mock them, shame them, cough in their food. They get the weird chair. No weird chair? Make a weird chair.
