Working on how to accelerate the energy transition
#EU #gas #consumption was 119 bcm in Q1 2025, an increase of 8% (+8 bcm) compared to the same quarter in the previous year (111 bcm). Marking a halt in the decline in gas consumption in the EU since 2021.

#EU Energy Commissionner Dan Jørgensen today at the EU energy council:
"We want to stop the imports of energy from #Russia to the EU, in a way where no MS will have any problem with #security of supply and #affordability", "legislative proposals will come in a few more days"

💡 Importing $100M of #solar panels pays for itself in just 1 year—by displacing $100M worth of #gas #imports for power generation.
Over 30 years, that’s 30x savings.
Investing in #renewables is smarter economics

What drives price volatility? 3 years after the #Russian war fo agression on #Ukraine, EU gas markets remains very volatile. Reducing gas needs with clean #electrification, with more demand side flexibility (e.g. #storage) would make it possible to escape this volatility.

Amid geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties, global investment in clean #energy is set to reach $2.2 trillion in 2025, twice as much as investment in #fossil fuels. With #China representing almost one-third.

#Electrification is on the rise in #China, which is making the most of its domestic energy. In the #EU, however, electrification is stagnating.

In 2024, global renewable power capacity amounted to 4 448 GW: 42% of #solar, 29% of #hydro and 25% of #wind and the rest of bioenergy, geothermal and marine.

Weather-driven #energy demand accounted for 15% of the global energy #demand increase. As #climate change accelerates, so does our reliance on energy and #cooling, underscoring a vicious cycle between climate change and energy use. @iea.org

Half of world’s CO2 emissions come from 36 fossil fuel companies, study shows. #Coal was the source of 41% of the emissions counted in 2023, #oil 32%, #gas 23% and #cement 4%.

The #Affordable #Energy Action Plan plans to offer better opportunities to #EU gas buyers to secure better long-term deals (based on the Japanese model). There are no evidence that this will actually resulted in lower prices. Fossil fuels independence is the way. #EnergySky

Who in the EU bought #fossilfuels from 🇷🇺 #Russia in January 2025? 🤔💶
🏆 Top Importers are:

1️⃣ 🇫🇷 France (LNG) 🫣
2️⃣ 🇭🇺 Hungary (pipeline gas + crude)
3️⃣ 🇸🇰 Slovakia (pipeline gas + crude)
4️⃣ 🇧🇪 Belgium (LNG)
5️⃣ 🇪🇸 Spain (LNG)

Despite the EU's green ambitions, fossil fuel subsidies still make up 31% (€111bn) of energy subsidies in 2023, while support for renewables is decreasing. It's time to realign public investments towards clean energy. #EnergyTransition

The #EU is accelerating its shift from fossil fuels based electricity in 2024, with fossil power generation dropping to 793 TWh. Meanwhile, renewable energy grew by 8% compared to 2023, driven largely by the surge in #solar. 🌍☀️ #CleanEnergy #Renewables

🇺🇸 US LNG supplied 45% of the EU’s LNG imports in 2024, with Germany relying on the US for 92% of its LNG needs
This shows the EU’s shift from Russian gas dependency to US gas reliance, raising diversification and energy security questions.
