Needless to say this photo is from a week or so ago because she's not getting out of bed for anybody, and has trust issues now. Oh such major trust issues.

Poor darling. What a thing to put an elderly lady through.

Not a 100% conclusive diagnosis, could have a still smallish uterine tumour, could have a uterine infection (she's spayed but ligation only it seems). Either way a month's worth of antibiotics and a lifetime's worth of dignity lost.

Then in the getting back up she managed to roll right on top of himself and flatten him into the ground, and bang herself into everything and anything in an attempt to escape. Which charge I narrowly managed to avoid in the opening and closing of gates so she wouldn't hurt herself.

The vet and himself managed to wrestle her to the ground eventually, got a towel over her eyes, himself and one of the observing vet students sort of lay on top of her, and the probe was deployed internally, as was a gloved hand, and an external ultrasound was done.

A pig that size can fight sedation. And when they fight sedation they tend to flail about. Oh boy did she flail. There was so much dust rising at one point none of us could see each other, let alone her. She was having none of this bloody treatment....

Just before she dropped, ran her into the shed so that there was a bit of shade because the ultrasound screen is hard to see in bright sunlight. Armed with various probes, arm long gloves, lubes and gels, towels to cover her eyes, and the vet so she could see the screen, she proceeded.

Success in that she was confined and stayed that way. Vet was able to get a dose of valium and ketamine into her - just enough to slow her down, it was warm and pigs don't cope well with sedation in the heat. Only minor hearing damage for the rest of us.

Firstly banned friends from showing up at the front gate in the fire truck - which precipitated last week's carry on. Then the yards and crush were all reconfigured to "hopefully" make it easy to run her into the crush and not have anything explode into pieces as a result of the rush.

Lol. Ender spent all last night there, giving off don't touch me or come near me vibes. Dogs kept getting on the bed and then quietly retreating from "the presence".

Thank you for the kind words. Disher is such a great writer it's always such a pleasure to read one his books.

Now that is a very interesting question. I didn't follow the case all that closely, but it always did seem ... off-handed or something, but when you put it the way you have, it does seem rather peculiar. I've added that book to the wish list now :)

She's home now with a pile of meds and an attitude you can see from the moon. Fingers crossed she's going to be ok, second ultrasound this am showed no obvious tumours and a decrease in the infection inflammation. Now to do something about our blood pressure
