For context, I featured the moral quandaries of the 30 year saga of the Makah whaling controversy in my video on Native American ecological beliefs and practices youtu.be/UhLizvrhbOU?...

It now seems unlikely the Makah will be able to resume whaling. Though the 1-3 whales the Makah plan to kill per year may not have a significant impact on conservation, the pod that passes through Makah waters each year has been hit particularly hard by food shortages caused by warming Arctic seas.

What grinds my gears about it especially is that every scene in this show involving indigenous people is intensely politicized, features so many platitudes about stolen land and injustice — and yet it can’t get simple facts right about the cultural history of the people they’re tokenizing

Also Pennywise turns into a Jesuit missionary to attack people. Why would the Wabanaki be terrified of their own allies?

I don’t expect the writers to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the works of Cotton Mather or anything but the quick perusal of a few Wikipedia pages would have been nice

Why do people believe it’s not worth it? Other than ignorance and habit, that is.

This is just another example of a corporate giant crushing the life out of workers & small businesses for marginally increased profits. Youtube has always had problems, but at least it was an viable alternative to MSM for both artists and audiences. Unfortunately those days might now be over. (9/9)

So audiences will probably now have to start going out of their way to keep up with their favorite creators. Namely, follow us on other platforms so you don't miss new videos, check your subscription tab more often than your recommended, and of course support us financially on Patreon. (8/9)

Undoubtedly there are also talented artists who have emerged recently, but regardless, this Tiktokification hurts ALL of us as workers. We're financially dependent on direct support from our audiences, and when Youtube weakens that link between us, it jeopardizes our ability to make a living. (7/9)

I have seen more and more channels this year with objectively shoddy and derivative content gain fairly substantial success, the telltale sign of high views but low subscription numbers indicating these are videos people are finding through passive recommendations rather than active interest. (6/9)
