Probably out hiking. Definitely exhausted.

Tonight’s rewatch: THE MAN I LOVE, starring Ida Lupino and Robert Alda, directed by Raoul Walsh.

DOUBLE DEAL (1950). An odd little noir. It’s 64 mins, so the pace is decent. But — a monkey? On a ranch in Oklahoma??? Marie Windsor is, as always, the saving grace in these B noirs. She gets to butch it up a little here. And when she slapped the cigarette out of Lilly’s mouth? I was shook.

Worth the price of admission for Elsa Lanchester’s slightly queer-coded cabbie. Her “Wisconsin” accent is ridiculous. She’s always in a Hawaiian shirt and cabbie cap. Too insane for it to not be entertaining.

A noir set and filmed in Hawaii, which was kinda cool. I’m always a bit underwhelmed by Wendell Corey, but the rest of the cast made up for it.

Visited Joan Crawford’s resting place today. And yes, I wore my JOHNNY GUITAR pin.

Watched HELLFIRE (1949) again tonight. Been on a Marie Windsor kick lately and I just love that Trucolor saturation. Must get a phyiscal copy someday since the upload on YT is pretty blurry and grainy.

Watched the 1952 noir THE SNIPER last night. The OG incel flick, with a touch of pre-BSU criminal profiling and psychology. Such a loaded cast, most in bit parts and uncredited, but lots of familiar faces.

A hellish workweek made better by film. Even the bad films. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched #FilmSky

#NowWatching: NO MAN’S WOMAN (1955).

#NowWatching: TROG (1970). My expectations are supremely low, but I’m always down for a little B movie Crawford.

That being said, those 9 minutes of Joan were primo. She hurled insults, bribed her lover, slapped a teenager around, and almost lost her hairpiece in her final moments on screen.

#NowWatching: I SAW WHAT YOU DID (1965). Another Joan Crawford film I haven’t seen before.

Anne Sexton, born on this day in 1928. My favorite complicated problematic poet.

Halloween’s over, so it’s back to some classics. Watching a new-to-me Joan Crawford flick.

My buys from the Shout! Factory Shocktober sale 😆. Had to grab all the Joan Crawford horror they had. And I’ve only seen STRAIT-JACKET, so I’m stoked to pick up the other two.

I don’t tend to buy films I haven’t seen before (unless they’re cheap), but I was so intrigued by the Vinegar Syndrome release of WINTER KEPT US WARM that I had to pick it up. A gorgeous look at queer love and longing at a time when being gay was still a crime.
