Nerdy about LucasArts and Sierra video games, Star Wars, architecture, JRR Tolkien. He/him/fhtagn. Also on mastodon.social under the same username.
From Conan: Scourge of the Serpent #3 (script Jim Zub, art Ivan Gil, colors Jão Canola).

Ma'am your outfit choice of "elaborate headdress and broad collar necklace, gauzy loincloth, sandals, and tits out" continues to slay

(also wasn't her hair blonde in previous issues?)

love how the Composite pilasters on Il Redentore have rectilinear shafts but elliptical bells in their capitals

The game files of a prerelease demo for #IndianaJones and the #FateofAtlantis preserve the overhead Sea Monkey sprite from the lost ship combat in #MonkeyIsland 1 - including the missing foremast from where it breaks off in this scene!

For an example of Charles' usual high sartorial standards, here he is in morning dress, with fashionable lapel piping on his black morning coat & waistcoat, and a white slip under the waistcoat opening. Next to him is his brother, the former prince credibly accused of being a pedophile rapist.

plus a commemorative postcard of L'Oiseau Blanc with headshots of Nungesser and Coli, with Coli wearing a more ordinary eyepatch under his flying gear

here's another photo of Nungesser and Coli shortly before their disappearance, where you can see the black monocle in better light

François Coli and Charles Nungesser, pilots of the airplane L'Oiseau Blanc, lost trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1927.

Coli lost an eye in World War I and wore a black-tinted monocle afterward.

This is the kind of drip I suspect @qsy.bsky.social & @funereel.bsky.social would appreciate

good news for this guy

From Conan: Scourge of the Serpent #1 & #2 (script Jim Zub, art Ivan Gil, colors Jão Canola).

Ms. Gordon, your ancestral counterpart wears an extremely fashionable outfit and I suggest you start wearing it at all times.

(also Zub's Conan comics are extremely good, highly recommended)

An Amiga press build of #MonkeyIsland 1, shown in The One magazine #35 (August 1991).

This build is mostly like the final version, but in some cutscenes the screen was vertically centered - something also seen in prerelease builds of MI1 and #LOOM on other platforms.

It also looks like the second screenshot has a WIP version of the VGA background of the deck of LeChuck's ghost ship.

and then there was Sierra's ad for KQ4 that was directly in response to that EA one:

Roger's mocap sprite was likely just a placeholder to use in "bullshots".

The sprite has 60 colors, including transparency.

Sierra VGA games tended to use a common pool of ~64 colors for virtually all the in-game sprites. A single 60-color sprite would never work in a fully developed build.

I guess the official title of Disney's next Star Wars project is "The Star Wars Mandalorian and Grogu".

The image with a cursor has a line of distorted pixels in the upper-left corner. Similar glitches in the upper left appear in several backgrounds in a leaked beta version of #SpaceQuest 4, and in other games like SQ4 EGA and even #KingsQuest 5!

This WIP motion-capture Roger sprite also appears in a preview in French magazine Génération 4 #025 (September 1990).

Wow, that's a sprite of WIP motion-capture Roger! From a Textfiles.com search, it seems that image appeared in a set of GIFs found on several shareware CDs.

There are actually two variants, one with & one without the cursor. The cursor-less file is usually dated August 19, 1990.

Hirst's statue pays particular homage to the statue of St. Bartholomew in Milan Cathedral, sculpted by Marco d’Agrate in the 1560s:

The real shocker is how Charles' white tie (technically a unique royal variant called a "Windsor uniform", as if they need an excuse for more fancy clothes) fits so badly for such a famous clotheshorse.

Once again, Prince Philip had a much better version in 2009.

White tie is difficult to get right and requires precise fittings. It's almost never worn even by US presidents, so slipups on visits abroad are not unusual.

Here's Barack Obama in 2011, wearing a tailcoat that *almost* fits, while Prince Philip's fits like a glove.
September 18, 2025 at 8:22 AM
UK state visit update: surprisingly, Trump is wearing a white tie outfit that fits properly, unlike the one he wore on his last UK state visit.

Even more astonishingly, the notoriously clothing-obsessed King Charles is wearing a tailcoat that fits very poorly.

what if I centered your title screen, LucasArts, huh, how about that

Nice. Presumably it has to be better than the ZX Spectrum version of the Fate of Atlantis Action Game. ;)

The death screen in Rise of the Dragon.

More games should have an ending screen that says "THEND"
