I like the idea of a Tudor galleon with so many cannons it almost sank and it somehow has the name of a cartoon character who encourages kids to eat more fruit

#Ilizarov frame gang

Here for the participatory disinfotainment
First remains my fav, but this one is certainly the most ambitious and interesting

Deciding if I ought to buy The Drifter for another PnC fix… or write some kind of Christmassy / solsticey folk horror to stretch my creative muscles
Just finished The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow, which was a lot of fun. Indie folk-horror point n click is absolute comfort food for me. May go and visit Hob Hurst’s House in Chatsworth to see if I can awake some ancient evils myself

This is obviously a grotesque simplification, but I find myself wanting to yell “you’re both right! Why do you hate each other”
Micro-macro paradox of the US left is that the liberals have command of the detail but often miss the bigger and more important picture, and the shitposters are stoned and angry and 90% correct but don’t have the practical detail to force themselves into being taken seriously

I’m too lazy to find the Monty Python “most dangerous joke in the world” skit but it’s probably in the replies anyway
this is quite the detail

The research behind the viral Tom Stoppard quote, with pictures and diagrams!
Eleven years ago, I wrote to Tom Stoppard to ask about this coup de théâtre from 1949. It took me down an unexpected rabbit hole - in memory of Stoppard, here's what I found.

One of the reasons I expect Reform to go worse in the UK than Trumpism is going in the US is that I think the UK has weaker civic society institutions. Our churches and universities are less rich, powerful, or inclined to resist, our media more compliant and uniform, our unions just as desiccated.
This is the most alarming story I’ve read today. Giving up the fight before it’s started

Re. Farage being racist in his youth, imo is not that much of a story or a suprise. But if it tells us anything today, it's that the lesson Farage learnt in his youth was that it could be fun to bully people, and that he has built several political movements that valorise being a dickhead

Good that someone has finally just come out and said it. You can only be one star sign or the other - if not, it wouldn’t make sense

For a while I toyed semi-seriously with the idea that KS was spooky, due to his time prosecuting terrorists as the DPP.

Increasingly swinging back towards the idea that actually he’s in a big folder, filed under “useful fuckwit, just stand back and don’t bother to get involved”

Ah, but are British political, media and economic elites intelligent and informed? No. Sure, but are they wise and reasonable? Also no. Are they charismatic leaders? No. Masters of wit and rhetoric? No. Can they crack a joke? No. Conventionally attractive? No. Do they look vaguely human? Do they fu

i grew up in vegas. even out by what was then the bare desert, the light from paradise was bright enough that the planets were barely ever visible, easy enough to confuse for airplanes. i grew up on an earth with an empty night sky - just the earth, the moon, and the dull orange light of the strip

Sometimes wonder if what the UK needs is a thinktank that doesn't do any new research, it just repeats obviously true statements that people try to ignore because they're inconvenient.

International students cross-subsidise home students. Your pension is paid for out of general taxation.

The headline is irresistable of course (and it’s surely only become worse in the last decade and a bit) but ironically the responsibility lies wholly with the media - where does the British public get these bizarre misconceptions from? Who can say?
