Just finished The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow, which was a lot of fun. Indie folk-horror point n click is absolute comfort food for me. May go and visit Hob Hurst’s House in Chatsworth to see if I can awake some ancient evils myself

This is obviously a grotesque simplification, but I find myself wanting to yell “you’re both right! Why do you hate each other”
Micro-macro paradox of the US left is that the liberals have command of the detail but often miss the bigger and more important picture, and the shitposters are stoned and angry and 90% correct but don’t have the practical detail to force themselves into being taken seriously

One of the reasons I expect Reform to go worse in the UK than Trumpism is going in the US is that I think the UK has weaker civic society institutions. Our churches and universities are less rich, powerful, or inclined to resist, our media more compliant and uniform, our unions just as desiccated.
This is the most alarming story I’ve read today. Giving up the fight before it’s started

One of the reasons I expect Reform to go worse in the UK than Trumpism is going in the US is that I think the UK has weaker civic society institutions. Our churches and universities are less rich, powerful, or inclined to resist, our media more compliant and uniform, our unions just as desiccated.

Re. Farage being racist in his youth, imo is not that much of a story or a suprise. But if it tells us anything today, it's that the lesson Farage learnt in his youth was that it could be fun to bully people, and that he has built several political movements that valorise being a dickhead
