Minneapolis dude who is now fucking up a suburb*

Builder of catyards, anti-lawn zealot, restorer of native habitats, bad bike mechanic, worse firewall engineer.

Have you tried clamping the tire in a repair stand and using the other side of the rim as a lever?
November 30, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Also schwalbe is the only studded tire company big enough to make small sizes, so there's not even a choice to go with higher TPI tires

Schwalbe marathons probably last longer, but they ride like bricks, aren't tubeless compatible, don't have enough studs, and weigh a ton. Without an e bike that stuff matters. I ride 45nrths

Can't use studded car tires here in MN so no idea how long those last.

I dont remember how many miles those fat bike tires had when I slid out, but likely less than 1k.

Schwalbe Marathons use cheaper steel studs which probably don't have this issue, but wear quicker and leave rust spots.

in my experience the studs wear down faster than the tire. It lead to a fun slide after freezing fog when I didn't realize my studs were shot.

Part of the problem is the aluminum carrier of a tungsten carbide tip corrodes and the tip falls out.

Its pretty wild how shitty asphalt streets like Stinson get compared to the old concrete ones. When they were tearing up 27th by Walgreens (now AutoZone) the concrete they cut out was around 18" thick.
November 29, 2025 at 6:16 PM
29th has some new fucky shit going on that they put in right as I was moving out. Its great if you like going East into oncoming traffic on a residential street that allows semis
