Even when they try (here’s a partially separated bike lane in Solana Beach near the I-5), it’s painfully obvious that no sane person would *want* to ride here.

In addition, there’s a station within a quarter-mile of an airport access road that could get people on airport grounds (at the rental car center) and into a shuttle bus avoiding city streets. But walking that 1/4 mile is currently more dangerous than swimming across an alligator-filled moat.

How we could go so long without a rail to the airport to get people off the road entirely when it literally passes within an eighth of a mile from the end of the runway is mind-numbing.

The Pershing Bikeway in San Diego is fantastic and fairly steep. It opened last summer. The "Pershing Climb" section of the bikeway has an altitude change of 137 feet (42m) over 2,608 feet (800m) of distance. Here’s a street view while under construction. You can find videos of people riding it.
