Almost done with my first base cabinet shell. 3 more to go!

TIG Welding, now cabinet making, just hedging my bets against AI 😅

Also, brad nailers are magic and I won’t be convinced otherwise. Just tacked it in place and drove cabinet screws in.

Buying tools and completing projects are totally different hobbies.

A friend of mine drops his kids off at synagogue Sunday school every week. Then he and his wife skip the service and do w/e they want for a couple hours. A free baby sitter every week.

Kinda baller if I'm honest 😅

Today I wrote some code by hand.

No LLM. No co-pilot.

Like an animal.

We do family movie night every Friday night. Lately we've had random anime movies on a whim.

These films just do not miss.

In a time when it's never been easier to be cynical, this quote by Nick Cave really cut like a knife.

My first 24 hours without a phone (just a cellular Apple Watch).

Sheesh, it really is the phones 😮‍💨

Distribution is harder than making things. I printed 1500 games, then sold 600 via kickstarter, conventions, connections, friends, and family. So how they heck do I sell the other 900? notesonplay.transistor.fm/episodes/11-...

I've got a great game with great reviews. So how the heck do I get it onto shelves? Here's everything I've tried.

I've managed to stay employed through the ups and downs of tech in the past 5 years. A huge advantage has been my online footprint. Do things + tell people is the cheat code.

But, it consumes mental space and I'd love to just get lost in books, welding, etc.

But, I'm scared to let off the gas.

Capitalism is begging me to turn my passion for cars into a a real business, and I refuse. Could I? Probably. But that's the fastest way to suck the joy out of something.

Do you have a hobby like this?

When I was an engineer at Bankrate, I built Coverage .com's entire backend by myself (pre-AI 💅), including ETL mappers for 40+ state regulations.

My manager said, "I wish I had three more Chris Arters."

At other jobs, I've been fired.

Same person. Different fit. Neither defines your worth.
