I enjoyed The Acolyte, actually.

I’ve been saving Absolute Batman until it was several arcs in. Finally reading it. My main reactions are 1) I don’t hate it, as I expected I would; and 2) White Knight remains my favorite Batman mythos remix. By a large margin.

Kind of amazing to me that the New York Times let The Daily call the birds “Canadian Geese.” This isn’t even sophisticated fact-checking that takes a New Yorker staff; this is check-a-dictionary copyediting.

Winter is … er, that is, winter has come.

Made me think of the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico and Secretary of State on Los Espookys.

For Thanksgiving, here is the scene in Lawrence of Arabia where the characters discuss carving Turkey.

If there’s one thing white guys admire less than an astronaut, it’s a naval aviator. White dudes just absolutely despise those guys. If you’re a politician supported almost exclusively by white guys, the astronaut military pilot is the exact right guy to pick a fight with. </sarcasm>

The president’s private course at Camp David is a Robert Trent Jones course commissioned by President Eisenhower and is considered a masterpiece.

Kind of surprised MAGA idiots haven’t made a big deal of the old nickel, which has Jefferson in profile. Versus the current nickel, minted starting in 2006 but becoming common in the Obama era with a cartoony forward-facing Jefferson. Reminded by change picked up today from the gas station.

The greatest rivalry in sports is England vs Australia in cricket. The biannual men’s series between them, known as The Ashes, starts tonight US time. Contrary to this photo, I’ll be rooting for the Aussies.

750,000 or so Americans would have some issue with the use of the verb “survived” there.

I’ve been on a cocktail kick for the Bee’s Knees, a pre-prohibition French gin cocktail of gin, lemon, and honey. And I usually don’t care for gin cocktails! Other than a 1:1 martini with orange bitters and onion.

I was catching up on unread comics last night and discovered that @gwillow.me wrote a fun two-issue run of Action Comics set in Greenland with my favorite old Wally West Flash villain. What a treat!

One thing about this week’s fiftieth anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald: I’ve been reminded what a masterpiece Gordon Lightfoot’s 1976 album Summertime Dream is. Easily a Top Ten album all-time. Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald isn’t even the best song on side A of the album!

You’ve just literally described Wolverine as he appeared in the comics before Hugh Jackman played him in the movies. And the thing is, the insanely handsome Jackman makes most guys look goofy by comparison. But comics Wolverine is short & stocky and therefore frequently underestimated.

I just learned that Rudy Boschwitz, the Republican who won Walter Mondale’s Senate seat in 1977 and represented Minnesota for most of my childhood until Paul Wellstone’s upset election in 1990, is still alive at age 95.

A colleague’s request sent me into the have-read section of our library looking for a tome, and I discovered I still have Alinsky on the shelf. Totally forgot I still owned it; haven’t opened the book since it was assigned in college. I’ve been carting it around unopened for thirty years.
