Woops, there was one in my late 20s too - but the star is now a right wing maniac so probably best forgotten.

First saw The Real Thing when I was 12*, then 19, then just last year aged 34.

Still my favourite play.

*probably didn't quite get all the jokes

We had a reading from him at our wedding.

Is/was there a better writer of dialogue?

The only other thing I would have is a large, decent board/screen that is nice and clear.

I think the parental influence comes through a lot - a degree must have an obvious practical outcome for a number of kids I have taught. Business seems to fit the bill I guess.

Though as an English teacher were forever having to persuade childre that even doing it for A level might be a good thing.

A very able and keen Y10 I teach looked genuinely surprised when he told me he wants to be a lawyer and I pointed out English would be great for that.

I want to know who is giving the advice though - having worked in schs with 6th forms for over a decade it's definitely not school staff!

Alas I am one of those people who has never really enjoyed it, Christmas dinner or not.

So I always have the mango, orange and pomegranate salad that my Mum makes alongside it. An old @nigelslater.bsky.social recipe I think.

I'd also ask how (if) you are able to hold them to certain expectations? At schools, I am aware we have a range of systems/levers.

And the more I think about it, the more I'm not surprised with the outcome. It's a watering down of a subject, saying it's core features don't matter - of course your students start to think it doesn't matter either.

I lean to the interpretation that if you hold young people to expectations, they will (eventually) engage with them.

I did not know this man but I am delighted that when I googled him the first picture is of him wearing a turtle neck.

Parfait.

I am in a similar boat, always a book.

Is he a foodie at all? I've bought my Dad (early 70s) fancy tinned fish before and it's gone down a treat.
