So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

With the Pier 8 development pausing indefinitely due to the collapse of the condo market, I moved a motion today to ask staff to look at other options and report back in public. Those options included affordable housing and purpose built rentals. It died on a tie. Transparency matters. #HamOnt

"we're willing to let our waterfront sit and rot indefinitely so you can make money developing it" is the worst possible message we could be sending here!
One argument against this motion was a worry about "sending the wrong message" to our development partner. That didn't track for me as City staff literally said they were already having these conversations with them. And we should always be willing to have difficult conversations in hard times.

As the dust settles on Carney’s first budget, it’s become increasingly clear which Canadians he thinks need to make “sacrifices.”

Hint: it’s not the ultra-wealthy.

In fact, it’s clear why someone who still considers himself a
conservative feels at home in this Liberal government:

For decades, a prime but isolated corner parking lot at 4th & Broadway in Denver's Baker neighborhood was too small for traditional development.

Thanks to Denver's forthcoming single-stair code updates, KGA Architects is proposing a 5-story single-stair apt on this "forgotten lot"

I've seen dozens of videos of Zohran Mamdani being asked for his favourite bodega food.

In Toronto, that question would be "what do you buy at the Metro to eat at your desk?"

MEDIA: Convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, and recent insurrectionist Donald Trump got reelected by making Americans believe crime was going up when it was going down. We have no idea how he accomplished this feat of making crime seem like a much, much bigger issue than it actually is.

All described in a wonderfully accessible manner that sums up to: How do we get more quality housing.
