Texas Democrats just did something historic under the leadership of new state party chair @kendallscudder.bsky.social. We have filed a candidate in EVERY 2026 race.

U.S. Senate: 1 of 1
U.S. House: 38 of 38
State Senate: 15 of 15
State House: 150 of 150
State Board of Education: 8 of 8
We Did It, Texas Dems, We Did It
Candidates in every legislative, statewide, and federal race. Now it’s time to build power where it counts.

I just gave away 9 Switch games to a woman for her kids’ Christmas presents. I was able to do that because I bought the physical games.

I love the convenience of traveling with a Kindle, but I’m on the verge of reverting to physical books for just this reason.
The kids are correct on this one. Physical media is so important to have and preserve. I’ve become BIG into buying CDs lately and for good reason because I’m tired of depending on terrible apps for music, etc. it’s sadly going to be harder in the coming years probs my to buy DVDS.
Our modern subscription hellhole is aggressively anti-ownership and the kids know it

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

insane local news just dropped. i've lived in a part of KC for ~decade and it's been an inside joke with friends and service workers that the local biz/party district is ran by a cartel of biz owners who bully out new ventures and replace them with generic dive bars for white suburbanites.

Well UH

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

a load-bearing component of “the magic of Christmas” is the invisible domestic labor of moms

you are now realizing how much she was doing for you and instead of just thanking her you’ve decided it’s about the decline of civilization
Because you're an adult you fucking muppet. You gotta pay the magic forward.

I’ve seen a ton of people looking for gifts on Buy Nothing. It’s another great place to pass along items that are useful to someone that’s not you.
Reminder: now's a good time to clear out stuff you don't use anymore. Everybody's broke & buying stuff for the holidays. Drop good stuff to thrift stores/ buy nothing/fb marketplace BEFORE the holidays hit.

It's good for climate & just being nice to each other.

I'm clearing out old cameras today.

For the past six weeks, an AI Facebook account has been pulling my history posts on Instagram and slopping out new captions, so I’ve been feeding it poison pills and its followers are having meltdowns in the comments. It’s been pretty spectacular.

This is a part of why I enjoy authors, artists, and other media people in y social feed. They often recommend works by friends or that they personally enjoyed. It tends to be in a similar genre (see: friends) but isn’t always.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Taxes are your civic duty. It is a privilege to be a part of a larger society, and they are your dues.
Taxes are good! Taxes are how we pay for all of the things that make society a good place to live!

People who don't like taxes are selfish and stupid and make our entire society worse for their own short term, often barely noticeable gain.

For the love of all that is holy, get yourself a meat thermometer. It is essential and will save you from wiggling a turkey leg to see if it’s “wiggly enough.”
(A) stop feeling pressure to be perfect;
(B) normalize asking questions, because that is normalizing learning;
(C) do not ask AI if your turkey is done; ask a meat thermometer
This is so soulless, I can't stand it. We have BRAINS. We can USE THEM.

Cassette: INXS
CD: Jane’s Addition “Ritual de lo Habitual”
Don't remember my first CD. Never bought a lot of cassettes, but...

Cassette: Dead Milkmen, "Big Lizard in My Backyard"
Vinyl: Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense" and Elvis Costello "Armed Forces," bought on the same trip to Appletree Records in Normal, IL.
Okay, who remembers the first cassette tape/CD they ever purchased? For me:

CD: Pink Floyd's The Wall
cassette: Styx's Kilroy Was Here
