Despite devoting considerable time and energy to the effort to reach a verdict in the killing of Patrick Lyoya by former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr, the jury was unable to do so.

The mistrial leaves continued pain and uncertainty in our community.

Not only is this proposed legislation dangerous and divisive, it is also discriminatory as it violates the Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, which explicitly protects people from gender discrimination, including transgender people.

@acluofmichigan will be in court for an emergency hearing asking that our clients, four international students, have their student status reinstated reinstate and stop the government from detaining or deporting them. We’ll let you know what the judge decides.
