The U.S. was once seen as the home of the free, uncensored internet, Ethan Zuckerman writes. With the Supreme Court’s decision to allow a TikTok ban, that era is now over:

Felt that and did that in 2020 to remain as grounded as I could. I picked ceramics and collage. Cannot recommend enough to have a physical craft. Just to reconnect with your hands and textures and matters
Honestly, with all of the AI garbage out there…now is the perfect time to invest in a physical hobby. Learn a craft. Get your hands dirty. Make something tangible.

When you hear the word "API," you immediately think about a technical interface that follows a set of rules.

Forget about this approach. The new API isn't anything like what you've seen so far.

—Claude, the code you produced would unleash World War III.
—Ah, yes, you're totally right. Here's a version that minimizes the chances of war.
—You simply added console.log statements.
—Ah, I see what the problem is now. Let's take another look at the dependencies.

And this is how the world ended.

I have a fascination for Ellen Ullman's work since I discovered her books. To me she is one of the rare who successfully describes what making software means, how the industry works, what writing code is as a conceptual & intellectual experience - tech.annelaurefreant.xyz/blog/close-t...
