The horrific terrorist attack on patriotic Guard troops cannot be used to paper over the fact that this mission has been a useless failure. Rather than doubling down on it and actually reducing crime-fighting resources in DC, the government must end the deployment immediately

That means Washingtonians won't have to see troops in military fatigue with big guns milling around aimlessly when they get out of Metro stations. And it will save money for all Americans--the National Guard deployment to DC is expected to cost $201 MILLION through the end of the year

This vote highlights the need for DC statehood. No other jurisdictions have to worry about their local laws rewritten by Congress. That is only possible because DC is not a state. It is un-American and wrong, and moments like this just fuel the fire for #DCStatehood

I am especially disappointed in @gene4va.bsky.social. He has now voted SEVEN times to advance Trump’s takeover of DC. He claims to support democracy, but then opposes it at almost every turn for the city just 40 minutes away. Why is this local Dem supporting Trump’s agenda so strongly?

We have had positive conversations with Democratic senators as we ask them to filibuster these bills. And I’ll note that fewer House Democrats voted yes on these bills than several similar previous ones attacking DC

Mayor Bowser may prefer that this not be the case, but it is clear at this point that she thinks it's worth it. I don't think it's worth it; I wish our Mayor was willing to stand up for DC's immigrants, and that our Council was doing more to shed light on what is happening

In case you were still wondering whether the GOP cared about solving your problems more than they did satisfying President Trump's every whim, here is decisive proof that they will choose Trump over you

The bills being considered would replace DC's system of detaining defendants pre-trial based on danger to society with one based on wealth; and repeal common-sense police reforms like banning chokeholds and requiring police to wear body cameras
