I saw this red flag on a tor up near Wistman's wood. Wondered what on earth it was for, whether it was some kind of signal, or marked an outdoor event. Contemplated heading up the hill to check it out, but decided in the end that the other direction looked more scenic.

Seeing for miles and miles. (Haytor Tor.)

While exploring Hound Tor (named after all the dog walkers?) I came across the remains of a medieval village, apparently built on the site of a bronze age settlement: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hundato.... Great views, but I'm not sure it would have been particularly cosy.

It's definitely wuthering on Dartmoor

Some thoughtful person has decided to highlight this barely visible tree hazard.

Nifty: skyfall-gs.jayinnn.dev.

I've been hoping we'll see some GS-domain-driven upgrades to, e.g., Google Maps visuals at some point, particularly given how well suited they are to trees and other foliage.

The good people of Bovey Tracey* really believe in pavements as a useful thing. (That's sidewalks for you US folk.)

In particular, they believe they make excellent spots to park your car.

(* Real place, I'm not making this up)

Good lord, there's a blast from the past. The original (well, SGI-era) STL: sgistl.github.io.

!!!

(An editorial podcast on whether the US economy is in a massive bubble at the moment, sponsored by _Anthropic_, is, well, amusing at least.)

It's better for smoothing solar than wind, due to the different timescales, but the UK's still finding it useful to build. Very simple business model for third parties too -- connect to the grid, buy low, sell high.

Oh right. Google still being cowards.

I always feel like this building looks like it's about to take off, for no apparent reason.

You do wind up with the oddest offcuts when 3D printing. I should keep them around for some kind of haunted forest diorama.

I've pushed some updates to github.com/andrewwillmo... over the last weeks, including an incremental Sobol generator, some ToTriangle/ToRot variations, Gaussian walks and events, and a jitter modifier. My little test-suite GUI app for it is now online too: andrewwillmott.github.io/app/GenDistT...

Been playing a bit of Tiny Glade as part of BAFTA game judging; very soothing. Enjoying the polish level for a small indie game.

Yep, I'm not joking when I say people typically don't realise how strong an effect this is. Our visual system is _very_ good at compensating! E.g.,
