“It just takes this species a while. We delay. We deny. We look away. But eventually, the truth gets loud enough.

And like I always say, reality is a brick wall. It doesn’t bend, doesn’t negotiate. It shows up.

If you’re sick, hold on. The tide is turning.” www.notesforfriends.com/p/long-covid...
Long Covid & My Brother-in-Law
I was talking to my brother-in-law the other day about something completely unrelated.

Chunks of heirloom tomatoes marinated in oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and fresh basil.
Spooned on top of a slice of toasted sourdough dressed with Duke's mayo.

It's my new addiction. I would post a picture but I ate it already.

They really should’ve walked it right over to Ben Franklin’s grave — where it’s been a long tradition to toss a penny (because one saved is one earned)
The U.S. government started making pennies in Philadelphia in 1793 when the city was the nation’s capital. It stopped Wednesday, November 12.

The Handbasket: Is “inflation has been tamed” a conclusion one should take from your report?

DoorDash: That's not something that we wrote in the report…The White House can use the language that they are using on that. I'm not gonna speculate on that.
WH claims 'inflation tamed,' per DoorDash stats. Company says that's not in its report.
It comes the same week we learned the WH would likely not release key economic reports for October.

Ironically you can see this very dynamic in the Epstein emails themselves, where the power elite all email each other absurd rumors and semi-literate political scuttlebutt and theorizing. The boys’ club exposed in those messages is the same one that controls the brains of the top Times editors.

At least now he can just whip out his novel and make people read it in his dressing room … which is somewhat less traumatic than the prior option

What it sounds like when someone whose entire professional identity has functioned as an expression of systemic white supremacy realizes they have to rationalize some of its, uh… less palatable…characteristics.

... This is, I now take it and for the first time understand from within, how the right feel about poor people accessing the welfare state, black underclass criminality, or fat people facing health difficulties. Just a seething contempt making one resist ameliorative measures that seem too kind. ...

Above all else, these people have absolutely NO moral standing to lecture the rest of us about the art we enjoy, the books we read, the relationships we have, or what we do with our bodies.

Social cohesion can make people do a lot of weird things.

He said, staring into the camera.
I think the banal answer is: he’s very rich and powerful and good at networking and this how people act around very rich and powerful people.

You will never go broke pretending to fight the power while going to the powerful set's cocktail parties & fluffing their egos a lot. There's a whole subcategory of "journalism" that consists of telling the very rich what they want to hear. (Irony! The rich don't actually respect those who do this.)

Don't just think about the price. Consider how much you'll love wearing the garment, which will be about finding a manufacturer that produces things to your taste. A $100 hoodie worn for a decade is cheaper than a $40 hoodie you replace in a year.

As usual, the key is to buy less, buy better.

is “redistribution of wealth” a banned phrase on here yet
Kind of wild that while food assistance was withheld from millions of families, one Trump-supporting billionaire (Ellison) saw his net worth grow more this year than the entire SNAP budget. And the YTD gains of the other four richest men would’ve fully covered salaries for all 2M federal employees.

The NYT has been a long-term partner in ignoring and covering up his corruption, starting in Fred’s day. From the first time Trump violated permits, stole public access, failed to pay workers, tax violations, money weirdness, all of it.

They had a massive trove and they never once dumped it.

I want to very gently say something, and I hope nobody will be mad: If somebody on the internet says something that is NOT about politics and NOT about how terrible everything is, it’s a kindness not to reflexively make a comment (in jest or not) that brings it back to those things.
