Solar power made up 9.7% of US electricity this September, up from 7.6% last year

Over the last twelve months, solar has made up 8.3% of US electricity, a record high!

The US housing shortage is acute & driven by policy. The prevailing explanations for why voters oppose new supply focus on two things:

"Homevoters": Homeowners protecting property values.

"NIMBYism": Neighbors fearing local nuisances (traffic, parking) in their "backyard."

What are the potential policy implications?

First, design matters. If the YIMBY movement wants to build broad coalitions, it cannot ignore aesthetics. Policies that ensure better design or "fitting in" (like form-based codes) might reduce political friction.

I'd think more in the way of donors rather than politicians. The largest political donors can influence the priorities of pols and are relatively detached from the reality of what society needs. A lot of them will be suburbanite NIMBYs, even in Pelosi's district.
