And a flyover of one of the first full world layouts I attempted. At this point I was still trying to figure out distances, event density and walk speeds.

And this was my hilarious attempt at placeholder weather changes that would happen during certain encounters. I am not a technical artist ;)

Guiding the player through an open(ish) world without the help of explicit missions or UI was a nightmare. I think the village area probably changed layout a dozen times before we locked it down.

(You can see a gun because at that stage I hadn't figure out ow to remove it from the CRYEngine default character. And I kinda liked shooting things while I was building the prototype)

It's the 10th anniversary of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. Here's a thread of images that very few people will have seen. Thanks to the opportunity that Sony Santa Monica gave us, we had the freedom to explore ideas, even if that meant we left a lot of amazing work on the cutting room floor...

Hosting another Games Toast this evening. We get people from across the North of England, and we're always happy to see out-of-towners. No ticket required, and we're two minutes from the train station.

If you're a game maker, and in/around Leeds on the evening of Tues 25th February, feel free to come along to a 'meet & mingle' event I host every month.
We usually welcome 40-60 gamedevs that spend the evening chatting and catching up. It's informal, friendly and no ticket required.

Here's my year in books! And my wishlist is still growing :O
And I've said it before, but I wish store/cover/key art for games was as varied, brave and interesting as the cover art for books. Our audience is ready for it!

Some people call me Andrew, some call me Andy. But, to the guy that works behind the counter at my local Indian takeaway, I'll aways be...
It was nice of them to get me a Christmas card :D

I wrote a piece about "Thank Goodness You're Here" for the latest issue of "Bother". I just received my physical copy and it smells so good!

This month was a mix of some incredible new releases and books I've had waiting in my 'pile of shame' for a while... Here's what I got through in November. #books

Found an old, unreleased, PlayStation 1 prototype lurking in my stash. It was a vehicle-physics stunt/challenge game (think: WarioWare in Monster Trucks). Sadly the Grim Reaper visited the studio while we were working on it. 😢 Circa 1999/2000

I've been hosting Leeds Games Toast events for around 10 years! If your town, city or region doesn't have a regular game meetup, then maybe it's up to you to start one. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than suggesting a time and a place to get things going.

I'm heading to @gamayo.bsky.social later today. 500 local game developers gathering to chat and share WiP demos. It's massive, but still flies under the radar of most of the UK's games press.
