Some more Dragon Quest critters. Unlike the last set, some of these guys like to wear clothes. (Although I guess the weartiger was wearing clothes, hm…)

Some Dragon Quest critters to relax after a looong campaign. (@vibanib.bsky.social this is your area of expertise)

And here are some more.

48 hours left! Thanks to everyone who backed the campaign. Here are some of the comics I've made to promote it.

I agree! The very miniscule details are clearly filling in the blanks—for example, he gives the base of the horn bumps like a roe deer. But the fact that he accurately shows the distribution of the skin bumps and the shape of the tail hairs shows that the sketch must have been extremely detailed.

(4/4) The teeny tiny details show it wasn't drawn from life, but again, that must have been one HELL of a sketch. That, plus Dürer's masterful understanding of animals, captures the Indian rhino better in my opinion than Oudry's rather flaccid painting of Clara the rhino 200 years later.
November 27, 2025 at 10:04 PM
(3/4) ...not to mention that the HAIRS ON THE TAIL accurately grow out from the sides, bifurcated! And the ear hair! Much has been made of the unicorn horn on the withers, but cut the guy some slack! There are humans with warts bigger than that, it could have been anything.
November 27, 2025 at 10:03 PM
(2/4) ...ridiculous. Accusations of fanciful additions by Dürer include the gorget (throat armor), which the Indian rhino has; the "rivets", which clearly represent the bumps on its skin; the scales on the feet, which are a fair abstraction of the legs' texture...
November 27, 2025 at 10:02 PM
(1/4) One of my weirdest pet peeves is people claiming that Dürer's Rhinoceros is "inaccurate" or "fanciful". It's true that Dürer never saw the Lisbon Rhinoceros and based his woodcut on a sketch done by someone else, but what a sketch it must have been! The claims of inaccuracy are...

Here are just some of the sketch cards you can nab! Only 5 DAYS LEFT to snatch one!
November 26, 2025 at 6:41 AM
ATTENTION! 🤿 In the event that RAPTURE OF THE DEEP is fully funded on Kickstarter, all of my promo comics will be collected in a GALLERY at the back of the book, along with every sketch card I've drawn for the project—and YOU could take home one of those same sketch cards if you back it! Link below!

COUNT DRACULA visits Hector today, cause Rapture of the Deep's got just 5 DAYS LEFT! Now's your last chance! Help fund the PHYSICAL BOOK, get a copy if you'd like, AND/OR you can get a one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn SKETCH CARD from me for just $15 extra! Link below!

Two more:

Mead Schaeffer - Threesome (ahem) Hiding in Alley Way

And Burmecia from Final Fantasy IX, made by a tangled web of people difficult to make out. Render by Behrooz Roozbeh; screenshot from the channel Retro Emulation Archive's CRT-filtered longplay.

Making this series, I've got night on the mind. Here are some of my favorite depictions of it. QRP with some of yours!

Frederic Remington - Moonlight, Wolf
Tomás Sánchez - Light on a Stormy Evening
Multiple (see below!) - 101 Dalmatians
Mike Mignola - The Corpse
November 22, 2025 at 10:54 PM
And here's a little sneak peek at who's going to visit Hector next week. You might be familiar with these two—a real estate agent on a Carnivore Diet, and a former Vovoide of Wallachia looking to become an expat.
November 22, 2025 at 4:13 AM
What is Rapture of the Deep about, I hear you ask? Hector's a cave diver. His older brother Sergio thinks he shouldn't be a cave diver. Hector's girlfriend Serena is torn between enabling and discouraging him. Gorillas do not feature prominently in the comic.

Go check it out! JUST 8 DAYS LEFT!

No-reference doodles while listening to something. I prefer to doodle from reference, but sometimes it's nice to see what bits and parts float up instinctively.

I have always thought that this guy from Yes Minister looks almost exactly like a patas monkey.
November 19, 2025 at 3:36 PM
GOOD NEWS! We got an extension for ONE MORE WEEK of Rapture of the Deep’s campaign—AND we hit 50%! But don’t you worry—Hector will STILL be bothered by nightly visitors as we count down (just a little more space between uploads)! Also—HUGE thanks to @simonroy.bsky.social for the shout-out today!
November 19, 2025 at 7:49 AM
(4/3) Not to mention taking reference photos yourself, and VERY important... getting your fiancée and brother to pose for you. And learning how to fold a sheet into an 18th-century belted plaid for your fiancée to wear.
November 17, 2025 at 3:25 AM
(3/3) And if that makes it look easy, there's also endless reference studies, crappy sketches, janky quick Magic Poser models, the occasional (occasional!) thumbnail sketch.
November 17, 2025 at 3:24 AM
(2/3) 3- Everything in shadow shaded with markers (warm for downfacing planes, cool for upfacing planes), then once-over with sky blue colored pencil
4- Everything in light colored in, in this case with dandelion yellow. More usually, I color things in using their native colors.
November 17, 2025 at 3:22 AM
(1/3) A little process thread for one of the pieces in Fire in the Highlands.
1- The lineart: sketched in pencil, inked with microns, then pencil erased and background pencils added.
2- Flat colors for everything in shadow (minus reflected light) and the ground.

The KICKSTARTER for RAPTURE OF THE DEEP has just 8 days left—and it's only 43% of the way there! To help promote it, I've recruited two guest stars from my book FIRE IN THE HIGHLANDS, coming 2026. Link to the Rapture of the Deep Kickstarter in the replies!
November 16, 2025 at 9:19 AM
There's just 10 days left to go on the RAPTURE OF THE DEEP Kickstarter—and we're only at 35%! Back and share all ya can! And watch this spot, because EVERY NIGHT until the Kickstarter ends, Hector will promote it himself, with the help of some ghostly guest stars!
