We use very small doses. Enough to activate the immune system, but not so much that they harm the animals.

This opens a path to acid-switched / sweeping antibodies that recycle and neutralise multiple antigens without changing the paratope.

While the work has immediate implications for snakebite envenoming, the methodologies developed here are generally useful for developing broadly-neutralising antibodies.
