Look at him!

He looks so kind and benevolent, so powerful. What harm could ever come from such a man, even if rumoured to be demented?

Perhaps you might consider that I am involved directly in this for the past four years, that I understand thermodynamics, that I am not naive and that I do not appreciate condescension.

Oh: you mean they know how to use computers?

Dumb ass excuse for not accommodating people ...

I'm developing a process to store carbon in mineralized form with mining waste. It's a solution that is cheap, large-scale, is well governed, and offer permanent storage on a geological scale.

This is not what I want, but what I see developing. In practice, it means that we must build up the politics and solutions that make this response effective. Or maybe political pressure will avoid this dreadful outcome. Right now, climate politics in the USA is wholly ineffective and needs fixing.
November 28, 2025 at 6:00 PM
All of this is pushing us to our limit. The whole thing will collapse when climate extremes will trigger a global recession or deeply impair international trade. That crisis will trigger governments to respond massively, similarly to the 2008 financial crisis. Money will come out of the spigots.

China, India and the USA - leading emitters - still favour growth over phasing out fossil fuels, though China seems to be changing course and India may too.

Among those who profit from FF, there's a belief that, while emissions are bad, there's still time left to make a profit. It keeps them going

There's a logic to this argument, but I think that logic or scientific facts are not the primary drivers for change. I think it's economics and politics.

People in Scandinavia overwhelmingly favour action on climate, and their countries have the most progressive climate policies. Not so the USA.

I am absolutely certain that practices established in Europe, South America or Australia would never be recognized here.
November 27, 2025 at 7:58 PM
As far as I am aware, there is no "internationally recognized methodology" pertaining to environmental assessments. There are definitely established practices: when assessing mining projects, BC has strict stipulations for what are considered adequate assessments of potential environmental impacts.

I talked to farmers in Italy and they have the same dread about our changing climate, unsure whether their early seedlings will be drowned or their ripening crops will be parched. I bet farmers throughout the northern hemisphere, and possibly the entire planet, share the same anxiety.

Here's a startup that is developing a *completely different* technology from the O&G DACs and is achieving better performance, all without billions in subsidies.

O&G DACs are too fat and only viable with government subsidies. Startup innovation will kill them.

President Trump is an unending source of inspiration to political cartoonists, a gold mine that extends at depth.

My complaint is that we are lumped together with O&G and this is neither correct nor justified. We will need expertise for scaling up, but it doesn't have to be from the O&G industry. Tesla proves this: they introduced EVs to North America and grew very large, despite not being one of the Big Three.
November 26, 2025 at 5:59 PM
Agreed. The O&G industry is masterful at lobbying and sucking up money from government.

However, I'm talking about something else
1. The need for carbon removal is parallel to the need for reducing emissions.
2. Many small companies are developing these technologies, separate from the O&G industry
