The Russo-Ukrainian war started at 4.30 AM on February 27th 2014 when Russian troops took control of the Crimean Parliament building in Simferopol. The invasion of Crimea was followed by the invasion of Donbass in March 2014. The war has been going on ever since.
A lot of Kremlin legacies in Ukraine.
I wonder what legacy all the other countries plagued by corruption in the energy sector have?

Corruption is a problem in Ukraine and part of the reason the country has not freed itself from Russia earlier. Now it appears the anti-corruption forces are about to win a major battle though. The news here is not that there is corruption. The news is that it's being brought to light and fought.
In July, Zelenskyy tried to gut Ukraine's anti-corruption bureau.

In November, it released wiretaps exposing his friend running a $100M kickback scheme at the state nuclear operator.

The agency survived—and struck back. Our deep dive into the scandal: euromaidanpress.com/2025/11/12/n...

One thing I do know for sure is that Zelenskyy will never be reelected. Ukrainians will remember him for his bravery, especially on Feb 24th, but Ukrainians are really fed up with corruption and power abuse too.
Remember those teenagers with "F*ck corruption" signs who forced Zelenskyy to back down in July?

Turns out they were right.

NABU just released 1,000+ hours of surveillance showing the president's friend Tymur Mindich allegedly demanding 10-15% kickbacks on nuclear plant protection contracts.

If the war ends it will be clear Russia didn't win, the economy will crash when turing back to civilian needs, and the brutalized soldiers will come home to form violent gangs to rupture society. No peace will ever come from the Russians. It will have to be created after Russia's defeat.
He can’t agree to a deal because he cannot put enough lipstick on this pig of a disaster he created to sell to his people.
It’s bizarre how Russians treat failure as patriotic.

Four years, over a million casualties, and none of the invasion’s original goals achieved, yet, the simps still beg and hope they can take Pokrovsk, while the bunker midget drives their economy straight into the gutter.

Truly bizarre.

From a fascist point of view everybody has an agenda and the "truth" is just what people want it to be, so of course there is "propaganda" everywhere. There is no coincidence that fascists hate journalists so much, good journalists seek truth and an objective truth is fascism's biggest opponent.
The Russian Embassy in London has called the BBC, Britain’s public service broadcaster, a “propaganda and disinformation tool” that was full of “ideological dogma.”

Moscow’s Embassy in London said “ideological dogma has replaced journalistic ethics” at the corporation.

I dare to say that fear is the biggest threat to western civilization. If good people have less fear we wouldn't be in this horrible situation today.
I'd say opposition to supporting Ukraine in Germany is mostly driven by (a) fears of escalation, (b) concerns around cost and (c) general anti-Americanism + admiration for Putin

"Putin attacked Ukraine, not Russians" fails to grapple with why millions of ordinary Russians were willing to follow orders in a devastating war against Ukraine.

This stuff open up questions over how far Russia as a society will come to terms with the past after Putin is gone.

1983 I visited Travemünde in West Germany and saw the fences and guards of the Iron Curtain. I asked my father if the wall would ever fall. "Not during mine, and even your, lifetime" he answered. Seven years later we visited Berlin. My father bought himself a big chunk of the wall as a souvenir.

Pro-Russians say Russia quickly repair their refineries. Clever me says that if it takes five weeks to repair it, it's the same as a ten percent annual loss in production. Each day closed matters. Same with harbors.

How come Russians can still get visas for the EU? Should have ended in 2014.
The EU is preparing to further tighten visa rules for Russian citizens, effectively ending the issuance of multi-entry Schengen permits in most cases, three European officials told POLITICO.

We should never pay attention to Russia's scare tactics. It's for cowards like Jake Sullivan and Olag Scholz, not people who are willing to stand up for something.
Putin has just announced that he has instructed the Foreign Ministry, the Defense Ministry, intelligence agencies, and other civilian departments to explore the possibility of preparing for nuclear weapons testing.
