I just want her to get healthy.
She has quit smoking but she is having some nerve issues in her arms and legs that might be something very serious or the result of a terrible infection.

My mom is very ill rightnow.
I am doing my best taking care of her since last wednsday. The Doctors still dont know wtf is wrong with her.
Her bloodwork is good, she had an MRI but nothing new has shown up. I am very tired and running on 3 hours of sleep per day.

No it's not. It's not combat powerxitd character options. Sometimes that's new combat moves but usually it's new movement abilities of some kind. Look at SOTN for example. Bat, Wolf, Mist are your primary upgrades, not new sword or new armour.
in metroid vania games the purpose of exploration is usually power progression. Power progression is an option for less skilled players to mitigate harder challenges like the bosses. It's standard RPG design. Hollow Knight tunes itself to be too hard and too unrewarding to grind power for bosses.
