This is how I met Pogo too! I’ve tried to bait my own kid similarly but the house is too stuffed with fantastic comics for them to stand out :(

Apparently it was first published in the Pogo Stepmother Goose; I encountered it in a later anthology. Dad had 3 or 4 of them shelved with the Doonesbury collections, and that’s how I learned US history ~1950-1975.

(The replies to the quoted post are IMO solid gold, but that Kelly poem is the one that’s kept coming back to me since 2016)
