We are Always Tender with Our Dead by Eric LaRocca

What on earth did I just read?!
It's very well written. LaRocca has a beautiful almost poetic prose style, but uses it to write such weird and horrible things.

Domination by Professor Alice Roberts

Domination tells the tale of the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of the Christian one. Full of Alice Roberts personal journey and investigation as well as plenty of re-examining of sources and archaeological evidence, it's fascinating and relevant.

Dangerous by Essie Fox

This is a great novel and Essie Fox has done loads of research to make this book as authentic and believable as possible. Part mystery, part horror, this is a vampire novel done like nothing before. A truly unique undertaking that's enjoyable too.

Legenda by Janina Ramirez

This book had the potential to not live up my expectations, but this blew them out of the water! I just wish my memory was good enough to recall all I read, but on the plus side I will have fun rereading this again soon.
Go get this, you won't regret it.

Life Cycle

Walking home
I passed a small boy on a bicycle
he was crying like small children do
their life ruined because they cannot wear their socks on their hands
He cycled so slowly he would have fallen
had his stabilisers not kept him upright

The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie

Despite this being a tale I knew we'll, it was still really enjoyable and the cast are excellent with Peter Dinklage as Poirot.
You do not have to be a big Poirot or Christie fan to enjoy this as it is excellently produced and performed.

Classic Horror: An Anthology

As this is Penguin this book is full of stories you've been meaning to read or perhaps think you have due to filmed adaptations or parodies.
This collection is worth getting as not only are they great, but are a wonderful gateway into many more exciting stories.

I've never seen it before, so this evening we're watching Killer Klowns from Outer Space!

Books I've read 2025:

Book 74

Spook Street by Mick Herron

I don't want to say too much about it, as I think everyone should give this series a try. They're fast paced, tense and coated in dry wit but most importantly, very enjoyable.

Books I've read 2025:

Book 73

We Three Witches by Rosie Talbot

I thoroughly enjoyed Rosie's other novels: Sixteen Souls, and Twelve Bones. And while We Three Witches isn't a direct prequel, it is set in the same York of those books, but nearly a century earlier and still just as brilliant.

Real Tigers by Mick Herron

The third book in the series has one of the "Slow Horses" get kidnapped and ransomed. The demand: a file. This once again sets off a chain of events of backstabbing, subterfuge and action sprinkled with the dry wit of Jackson Lamb that Mich Herron writes so well.

Ice Cream for a Broken Tooth by Robin Ince

When I saw Robin was putting out a collection of poetry accompanied by his photography and a couple of short essays, I was excited. Thankfully, this book is lovely and I would highly recommend giving it a read.

A/S/L by Jeanne Thornton

3 teenagers try to create a computer game, 20 years later we see where their lives are.
The coding language and the unsympathetic characters make this a difficult read. The last 100 pages when it all starts to come together are good, but it's a hell of a slog to get there.

Dead Lions by Mick Herron

While I enjoyed Slow Horses, Dead Lions was so much better. I found it so much more engaging and Lamb was even funnier in this tale of pitiful spies taking on an imaginary cold War villain who has returned to the UK?
Great book!

No Friend to this House by Natalie Haynes

I love Natalie Haynes. Her writing is so funny, engaging and told so obviously in her own voice. Every time I finish one of her books I feel like what I've just read has to be her greatest work yet, and this is no exception.
