arguably, i would be willing to say the same is true for commercial arts as well--less focused on telling a story, innovating artistically, and more focused on tropes, brands, ips that can get audiences in seats, regardless of the quality or repetitiion

right now, "new technologies" are almost exclusively focused on "how can we extract the most value possible?" this has meant reinventing the wheels to extract profit from systems that already worked, solving "problems" that never existed to begin with, etc.

see the thing is, I love having nuanced discussions w ppl about hard topics, even w ppl I might not necessarily agree with. it just feels that social media makes it impossible to have these sdlkhfsfdlh

the way social media is set up to literally incentivize rage and fighting

Imagine if in the real world, someone said something stupid or something you didn't like and you rallied up everyone in a 3 mile radius to start screaming at them. Insane behavior. But on the internet we're supposed to just accept that cuz that's the way it is? Genuinely hold ppl accountable

Now that being said, criticism of someone or of an artwork/video/whatever =/= hate campaigns or dogpiling. I am very specifically talking about people who send masses of people to call ppl slurs, tell them to "keys" or "deactivate", etc

I have been chronically online since I was 10 years old and I have never once gone out of my way to leave hate comments on peoples' pages, or send death threats or anonymous hate messages. It is not "normal" behavior, it is almost never "warranted." It is genuinely antisocial behavior

i actually feel like it's more of a safeguard for the video creator tbh. it might not stop the crazies but it stops ppl from pointing the finger at the creator if that makes sense
