“Our father is dead.”

“I still can’t believe I am saying those words.”

The obituary I wrote for Shigeru MIzuki, easily one of the most influential manga artists of all time, second perhaps only to Osamu Tezuka.

He died more than 10 years ago today.

It's the last day of the month and my first blog post in a while... so, how do you paint November?

A blog about Pentiment, creativity and game development.

How We Paint November
For a long time, people told me to play Pentiment. It’s an adventure role-playing game set in 16th century Bavaria. It’s historical. So I should like it, right? The thing is, I’m less interested in…

Devs were only allowed a few (I believe two) tickets per nomination before Geoff charged them. Resale tickets were in the hundreds. And we all know what happened to Future Class (if you don’t, read my piece).

Incredible stat:

On the last Five Occasions that at least Three Drivers were involved in the title decider - 1981, 1983, 1986, 2007 & 2010 - The driver leading the championship heading into the race never went on to win the title.

Can Norris break the curse?

i am so very cheesed by demonschool being inspired by persona 2. real ones know how crazy i got about that game during the pandemic and it kinda breaks my mind (in a good way) that game devs would look to that game for inspiration
November 30, 2025 at 11:02 AM
hahaha yes… Yesss!!
watched more demonschool. one way you can tell it's specifically inspired by persona 2 isn't just the artstyle, but the pacing. persona 2 is the crank 2 of JRPGs, hitting the gas from the start and never stopping, polar opposite of P3-5. demonschool similarly just gets right into things ASAP.

just realized that i’m high key not following enough indie devs on here esp in relation to how many i followed back on the other app. need to amend that expeditiously

it’s really interesting how the impact of japanese print culture (fashion magazines, weekly shojo publications that included serialized horror) on early 2000s japanese horror games with female protags kinda goes unnoticed in the west due to lack of circulation-

currently brainstorming a thing about silent hill f’s connection to the early days of the shojo horror manga subgenre in the 60s-70s and it’s surprisingly like, many such cases of men writing really good and resonant horror manga on the female experience
“write only what you know” is bullshit because a man wrote silent hill f and this shit rocks!!!! its feminist core resonates SO strongly if you’re a woman!!!!

I think the corollary that a lot of people miss about "write what you know" is that *you have the power to know more things.* Research and talking to people are a central part of writing!

Clair Obscur might be the perfect example of videogame 'Oscar Bait'. Glossy and professionally produced, mostly realistic aesthetics, a familiar genre with a little twist, a Meaningful And Emotional story, and safely within the social mores of western pop culture. No asian 'weirdness' here!

I remember Dawning Realization Month for the NFT people too. Think this is going to take much longer because of how wrapped up the whole economy is in this, but it really feels like it's happening.
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

ICYMI, we released our demo last week! ✨

As Canadians, we are almost due for the grey, the cold, and the mush. But... what if you had a window into a gorgeous balcony of plants both alive and undead where you can cast spells, avoid errands, and try to pet ghost bees?

Finding inspiration in the creative suffering this documentary is already making me feel. I would love for this to document how easy things came together for this team but there is a feeling of “of course, this shouldn’t be easy…right?” You don’t have to suffer for art but resilience, that’s key.

Some friends last weekend kinda landed on a working theory that Important Art Museums are some of the last places random Americans will be exposed to surprise in art that might make them feel something--even if the feeling is distaste--because you go as a Tourist Destination and can't pick the art.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?
