I've been able to do a loose recreation here with an iterative method, but it can't use higher resolutions for anything other than the diffuse. Too resource-intensive.

How would you do that? The gradient, as it goes from 0 (black) to 1 (white), needs to go from a larger ellipse to a smaller one of different scale and location

I want the inner ellipse to be scalable independent of the outer ellipse. I've made the cube example clearer here; The gradient I want should go from 0 to 1 as it translates from a larger ellipse to a smaller ellipse with a different location, smaller scale and independent aspect ratio.
