My son (whose latest blitz game has finished) has commented that this picture looks like we’re outside, in the daytime. Partly the floor tiles and high ceilings here at the Emirates Stadium I suppose. But it is pitch black outside, and we are indoors.

Right in front of me is this giant chess set. Earlier I was watching my teenage son play against various younger children. Now I’ve just watched two very small children play a few moves. (Well - maybe only one move. They were hanging around the board for a while anyway, looking extremely sweet!)

Not sure how long my response to this first question will be yet (I’m hand writing on my Remarkable) but it will be pages and pages… I may need to write a summary of my initial thoughts!

I don’t think anyone should feel forced to study business, and universities and governments should support and encourage humanities degrees. But all degrees where people have an interest, and society has a need, should be embraced. Including business. 6/6

I meet with so many interesting studying a varied range of business degrees (undergraduate as well as postgraduate) who are great people with interest in their subject area. 5/?

I often say (when I have money to do stock selection) that one of the good things about being a business librarian is that business relates to anything and everything and I have the flexibility to buy books I think will be relevant to my students across so many topics 4/?

But business degrees (and this is a generic term - there are so many types of business degrees) include lots of opportunity to explore and learn about many topics. Learn good research methods (flexible to your interests and passions) and work collaboratively with others. 3/?

I agree it’s a problem when people study business rather than something else they’d love to do, believing it’s what they should do to benefit a potential future career. Or people studying business instead of something else because of family pressure, tho this can be true with other degrees too 2/?

The new section I created isn’t for the picture in the thumbnail (while that’s also beautiful, it isn’t new).

The new pictures (if you click through) are of a window that’s been rearranged and integrated into a door and above door panel.

Also, creating/compiling your own images, that you have a right to, is really useful for thinking about and developing your theme and what you want to say. I’m so glad now to have developed images for use in my #DARTS9 presentation earlier in the year. It added to my thoughts.
At the brilliant #DARTS9 conference last week, I got to learn from & talk with an amazing range of people, and had the wonderful opportunity to talk about my journey as a researcher librarian. I'm planning to periodically share my slides, & relevant books I love that I illustrated the slides with.

And images are not particularly hard to create these days. We all have a camera in our pocket, and can take our own photo of something in the world if we need an image to draw people’s attention.

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.
