Executive Director at the Fossil Fuel Non Proliferation Treaty. Climate, energy transition, and politics with a justice perspective. Also Port Adelaide football club if the community grows here.
Brazil has the opportunity to bring these issues together in their high level dialogues and action agenda. Unfortunately their focus currently seems primarily on the TFFF and also on granting licences for exploration at the Amazon mouth so more international pressure is required.

🇨🇴 I was a proud Colombian to see how my government tried to bring the issue to the fore. It now rests in the hands of Brazil as Cop30 host to find a way to force international attention onto the most significant driver of risk to the Amazon and the climate crisis - expansion of fossil fuels.

A mix of recognizing the historic advance but also the historic missed opportunity and the potential costs that poses.

For me it was an honour to join many Indigenous and non-Indigenous allies from the Assembly for An Amazon Free of Fossil Fuels in advocating for the worlds first extraction and fossil fuel exclusion zone - in the formal dialogues, to the International Parliamentary Inquiry, and in public meetings.

The Court also noted the efforts by states to develop a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative and Plastics Treaty.

Huge congratulations to all the movements across the world that have made what seems obvious now a much clearer norm in international law.

The African Development Bank did not approve any direct funding for fossil fuel projects in 2024, but its failure to exclude #FossilGas leaves the door open for backsliding.

Continued investment in gas risks locking #African countries into stranded assets, energy insecurity, and inequality.

No one says they will be phased out on current policies. Don’t rational people (and those not paid by petrostates) look at the climate crisis and say - therefore we should change those policies in order to phase out them out. Proposing any other course of action is hard to reconcile with reality?
